Channeling Playstation 1 Vibes
You and I have both seen the first edition of Paul George’s signature shoe, the PG 2, clad in black, coloured speckles on the midsole and finished with an icy outsole. If you were a Playstation fan, as was Paul George, this was one to cop, as the equivalent Playstation Air Force One was a bit difficult in comparison.
Details were all in this shoe, from the eyelets reflecting the button colours on the Playstation controller, patent leather and mesh representing the piano black portion of the console, and as a bonus, comes with light up logos on the tongue, courtesy of a built-in battery. Mature looks, with enough child-like inspirations to cement the shoe as a proper homage to the gaming console.
Now though, we see a sequel, a further throwback 3 generations ago to the OG console, the Playstation 1 embedded into the PG 2.5.
The PG 2.5 Playstation 1 comes in proper nostalgic colours, the same gloss gray that gave life to the PS1 is transferred over to the shoe. A midfoot strap is now present, replacing the usual eyelets for extra lock during lateral turns. Button logo motifs adorn the rear three-quarter panel, and the Swooshes reflect the button colours. Pretty neat stuff. Only thing missing is the light up tongue, instead replaced with a normal PG logo and original Playstation logo in all its coloured glory. The kid in me sheds a tear of joy.
Retailing at only RM455, the PG 2.5 is no doubt a collector’s item, a homage to a console that only befits its legendary status, and a complement to the PG 2 Playstation 4. Watch out on the 5th of December at Nike.com when it drops at 9AM.
