It’s been a while since we had a thriller of this sort gracing our silver screens, but MOTIF is adamant on bringing back proper suspense and horror as it was originally intended.
Directed by Nadiah Hamzah whom recently won at the Cannes Lions Film Festival on her anti-bullying PSA, MOTIF drops us into the story of Sharifah Amani (Inspector Dewi) who’s sent to Tanah Merah to investigate the case of a missing teenager. As she’s not one of the local townsfolk, she faces plenty of backlash from the villagers, including her partner Inspector Rizal (played by Taqim Zaki), and even more despised by the father of the missing girl, Hussein (played by Datuk Rosyam Nor).
In a very classic fashion, Dewi uncovers several trails leading up to a few probable suspects, but as she gradually uncovers the mystery, her own demons also come to trouble her. In the trailer, we’ll see if she’s able to handle her own problems while solving the case, or will it overcome her and eat her alive.
