The energy drink experts at Red Bull are in the final stages before the launch of their #EhWauBulan Art Showcase, an inaugural exhibition of creativity that will see 59 selected artworks on display in celebration of Malaysia’s 59th independence day.

The artworks were chosen in a blind selection process from over 332 unique submissions by a distinguished panel of experts: street artist Fritilldea, contemporary artist Ivan Lam, and National Visual Arts Development Board trustee and artist Phillip Wong.
According to Red Bull, the panel was astonished by the sheer volume of submissions, diverse artistic styles and the experimental energy in subject matter. Malaysia Boleh!
“Red Bull’s submission call was open-minded enough to yield a very diverse pool of submissions. It confirms that artists in Malaysia are exploring many styles and mediums. Our arts market and industry are clearly in a very contemporary phase right now, and I’m excited to see it reflected in what we saw during the curatorial process,” says Phillip Wong.
Street artist Fritilldea also notes that people here are beginning to identify as self-taught artists early in their lives, and the internet inspires them to boldly experiment with patterns, portraits, doodles, oil, and graphic design.
“Initiatives like these enable young people to see a viable future for themselves in the art industry, and creates a community who appreciates their work,” he says.
Of the artists selected, one standout artist will benefit from a bespoke artist programme that best suits their needs and nurtures their talent. This artist will be revealed at the opening night.
