Graffiti. Often synonymous with vandalism for the longest time, now finally getting the attention and reception that it deserves after wide acceptance into contemporary culture. From its subversive beginnings in the New York tunnels, and thought to be jsut some sprays or ‘contengs’ on the wall, graffiti has much more evolved from spreading metaphorical messages to the masses, to art pieces scattered all across the cityscape, welcomed as part of the cultural mainstream. Regardless, certain places still view it with negative connotations, and it’s no different here in Malaysia, whereby actually performing graffiti is considered illegal, but that is also where its attraction lies.

The very nature of the art gives the audience a sense of power, an energy of rebelliousness that classical art pieces can’t hope to give.  BAD LAB wanted to congregate 4 of the best graffiti artists Malaysia has to offer and and showcase each of their unique artwork at the MRT pillars near TTDI station.

Comprised of famous names from the likes of Cloakwork, Katun, Dmojo, and Shade, the so-called #BADLABGANGOF4 performed live drawings on each of the billboards, all the way from 12am to 5am last Sunday night.

#BADLABBILLBOARDS will be up for the next 6 months, so plenty of time to enjoy great artwork, courtesy of local talent.
