Art savvy Malaysians looking for greater domestic exposure should pay attention to the LRT3-inspired art contest which was just announced today. Called “Painting The Rail Future”, this pun-titled contest entails participants to submit creative illustrations on the evolution of Malaysia’s rail transportation.

The competition is open to youngsters just getting acquainted with school life all the way up to seniors with a penchant for graphic design. Of course, not everyone is going to be participating on equal footing.

“Painting The Rail Future” is divided into four categories, namely primary school students between 7 and 12 years old; secondary school students between 13 and 17 years old; university students; and an open category, with prizes up to RM3,000 cash.

The best entries – which will be decided by a representative from Prasarana Malaysia as well as notable personalities in the creative space – will be featured on hoardings and other LRT3-related promotional material with credit given to the original artists. The promoted artwork will last throughout the construction of the LRT3 project.

All submitted illustrations will be evaluated based on how well the artwork approaches the essence of theme, it’s uniqueness, quality of artistic composition and overall impression of the design.

Here’s a look at the contest categories in greater detail:

If you’re wondering what the upcoming LRT3 is all about, this is exactly what this art contest intends to create awareness on. No, the LRT3 isn’t an extension of an existing rail network. It’s to be an entirely new rail transportation system spanning 37km and 26 stations, which will extend across the Western Corridor of Klang Valley.

For some 2 million people living and working between Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya and Johan Setia in Klang, this means enhanced connectivity and mobility in the locale. For the creative, artistic Malaysian however, this means at least 2 million people appreciating your undoubtedly masterful depiction of the country’s rail future.

If this interests you, you can submit your entry anytime between now and 13th December 2016. Don’t forget to visit LRT3’s official website for more information regarding the “Painting the Rail Future” art contest, or on the LRT3 project itself!
