Welcoming the third photographer to The Marksmen Series, we are would like to introduce you to Mohd Azzam Che Manir, also known as Azam – who can be found via his Instagram, @azzamchemanir. He was born in Mentakab City in Pahang, but raised right here in Kuala Lumpur.  So, as of now he is a full-time photographer, and also a drummer for the alternative rock band, OAG.

Azam mentioned to us that his photographic career was rather unexpected and unplanned – that even though he is a drummer for a local band and been heavily involved in the music industry for 12 years, he woke up one day and felt the need to explore new aspects that he can benefit from and improve his skills in. He initially borrowed a Nikon D90 from his friend, and from then on, his photography equipment increased tenfold, whereby he then went on to purchase his first DSLR, a Nikon D200.

When asked about his inspiration for photography, this is what he had to share with us:

“My first attempt in photography was back when I started to travel. I felt that it was kind of a waste not to share the beautiful scenery of places that I’ve visited. There are millions of photos that can surely capture people’s attention; despite those who live amongst nature, or modern architecture – especially those who are obsessed with street and city photography.”

Urban, street, architecture – three aspects which are truly loved by Azam; he began shooting stunning architecture, beautiful street locations, and the lifestyle that comes with it when he visited Europe last year – and from then on, he made it his mission to learn how to become better.

“One thing about me, is that I like to explore new places, and places that are hidden away from people – the unexplored. I want to share my photographs with people so they can never forget what they have seen; this is the power of photography.”

Azam has already been involved in a number of projects stretching from Europe, such as a photo-shoot for Bunkface Brand, The Bunks in London and Scotland – and a street photo-shoot in Belgium and Amsterdam. Then furthering his reach to Asia with a photo-shoot for Owlscar in Bangkok – and a lifestyle photo-shoot in Bandung and Jakarta.
