With the rise of technology, it has made it easier for people to become instant photographers, and with the help of social media apps like Instagram, it has made it more convenient for these photographers to showcase their talents, but at the same time it has also made it harder for them to be seen in a very, very over crowded social media landscape. So we decided to start a new featured series where we highlight some of Malaysia’s most talented photographers called The Marksmen Series.

The first individual to be highlighted in our first The Marksmen Series is none other than Mr. Not Popula aka Arieff Arbain himself, or more commonly known as Oharieff on Instagram. Here in this feature, he comes up with a set of photos highlighting his current liking for long exposure photography called “Trailing”. When asked why the liking towards long exposure photography, here’s what he had to say about it below:-

“I started getting into long exposure photography because I’m a very nocturnal creature. And because of my work, night time is the only time I have to come out and take pictures. I thought it would be cool to showcase KL’s night life in all it’s colours and that simple things can be beautiful.”

We also asked him about the reason he calls himself “Not Popula” and this is what he said:-

“I don’t chase fame or popularity. A lot of people start something with that in mind. They want people to know them, follow them, and even worship them. You can see now on Instagram, a lot of people are racing to be  more famous, and everything they do is to become famous, to become “popula”. But in real life, they are nobody. To me I started photography just for fun, as a hobby and to make friends. I want people to know my work and what I do. They don’t need to know me, as long as they appreciate my work, I am happy. That is all.”
