It’s a known fact that we Malaysians love watching movies. Heck, everybody in the world loves watching movies. Who doesn’t? So we thought we should do some movie reviews but since there are already so many blogs and websites that are already doing movie reviews of movies that are being screened here in Malaysia, we thought we should do something slightly different.

The Malaysian Censorship Board can be sort of a pain in the ass sometimes when it comes to what movies get to be screened and what doesn’t but with the help of the INTERNET, you are now able to watch any movie you want. So that is why, starting this month onward, we will be listing 5 movies per month, that you most probably have not seen yet due to certain reasons (*cough* Malaysian Censorship Board *cough*). Contemporary films and at least one classic will be featured every month. Let us know what you think by commenting below.

1. Predestination (2014)

Based on Robert Heinlein’s short story, “All You Zombies”, this movie is about an agent (Ethan Hawke) who uses time travel to stop a terrorist while exploring his roots. Hawke, as usual, makes his presence known but it is relatively unknown Sarah Snook who manages to be the real star of the film. Without revealing too much, Predestination is impressive in a sense that it is quite complex and you will probably need to watch it a second time to digest the question you will be asking yourself: which came first, the chicken or the egg?

2. American Sniper (2014)

Action junkies, this one is for you. Clint Eastwood’s work in this film is at its best, depicting the ties between violence and American history. At the center of it all is Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), the deadliest operative in U.S. Navy history with a total of 160 kills, which made him a legend on the battlefield but what happens when he realizes he can’t leave the war behind on his return home? Based on a true story, this is not an action movie you want to miss.

3. Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead (2014)

You may or may not have watched Dead Snow, but if you haven’t, go watch it. Back with more Nazi zombies, intestines and some deadbeat dark humor, the sequel to the 2009 original is sure to entertain you even if you aren’t a zombie flick fan. Forget about The Walking Dead, this movie defies any zombie logic you have learnt in the past and puts a whole new spin to it. A Norwegian film, it is definitely not for the faint-hearted as the violent scenes are graphic (watch the scene where they transfer fuel, yuck!) but a must watch for the most die hard of zombie fans.

4. The Raid: Redemption (2011)

This Indonesian action film is so good that it has been compared to some of the best action movies of the West. The action and pace of this movie is fast and furious (pun intended) from the beginning to the end with some of the best fight choreography ever done. Rama (Iko Uwais) is looking for his brother and at the same time uncovers the corruption within the police force leaving behind a trail of destruction. The Raid: Redemption was made to be highly entertaining so make sure you have gone to the bathroom because you wouldn’t want to miss a single scene!

5. Taxi Driver (1976)

A classic oldie but goodie, Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle, a Vietnam war veteran who is mentally unhinged and works as a night time taxi driver in New York City. Alone and unable to connect, Travis finds solace in Iris (Jodie Foster), a hooker. A crime movie directed by legendary Martin Scorsese and featuring one of De Niro’s best performances in his younger years, Taxi Driver is a journey of frustration and anger transforming into violence and vengeance.
