Since it’s the midst of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, we want you to know more about the local talents in Malaysia. Although KL is no fashion centre like Paris and London, our country’s fashion talents are actually growing in amount. Not to mention famous designers who have made it to fame, these young fashion designers that we are about to list down here are building up their reputation. Here it is :

1) Motoguo

Moto Guo is a Malaysian-based menswear designer with a label launched in 2013. His debut and graduation collection, “Out Like A Light” featured a delightful assortment of designs that are telltale signs of his identity; wacky yet artful. This design was also inspired by his own life as a kid and from sleep. Moto Guo also chooses to have his own work to speak for itself.

2) Kittie Yiyi

Growing up in a small town in Puchong, Kittie Yiyi’s design is very much alike her personality. It’s all about the fun, colours and excitement. This designer never limits herself from finding inspirations for her collection and is always ready to explore the world which is mysterious to her.

3) Tengku Syahmi

Being crowned The Most Promising Designer at year 2009 M-IFA, this young designer has since been getting much attention. Tengku Syahmi has also been collaborating with other designers. This young designer now has his very own showroom selling his own pieces and is located at D7 Sentul East Kuala Lumpur.

4) Man Chien

Born in a family with artistic background, Man Chien was exposed to art making at a young age. Her passion in art was developed since childhood where she spent time sketching in the nature and visiting art gallery. Being awarded The Most Promising Designer of the Year, 2011 and Next Generation Fashion Awards, 2012, Man Chien’s works are characterised as being imaginative, with undoubtedly original stunt, not without paying attention to practical details.

5) Justin Chew

This talented gentleman started in fashion as a stylist’s assistant, working on magazine shoots and campaigns. He also worked at a production house to develop his skill as a designer further. This designer has kept us on our toes ever since he debuted in 2010 at the Malaysian International Fashion Week 2010. Getting his inspiration mostly from movies and songs, Justin’s collection is indeed very unique.
