This brand has been under the radar for some time now. The founder, Ronald Chew, initially started the brand in San Francisco in 2011 when he was studying there. The concept of Nerd Unit is pretty much inspired by anything military, American military to be exact. Camouflage is very much a staple diet in their designs and we have no complains on that. One can never get tired of camouflage designs when tastefully done.
The meaning behind the brand’s name “Nerd Unit” comes from Ronald’s take on our current streetwear scene. A scene where he see’s majority of its occupants struggling to be a ‘hypebeast’ and in order to achieve that, are willing to camp in front of their computers scavenging for good deals on eBay or other sites for the latest hype, or just surfing the net to get any sort of info on what’s latest and what’s hype. That, is a pretty ‘nerdy’ thing to do and that’s how the name came about.
Nerd Unit’s latest collection is called “Beyond The Cross”, which sees the brand venturing into religion, or the signs of it. In all of history, religion has always been a part of war. Death coincides with war, and so is religion. The collection consist of tanks & t-shirts and is already available at selected retailers in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
