We know, we know, we have kept you guys waiting for awhile now. Hence, we’ve assembled a list of kick-ass movies for you to dive in. There are some days where we just want to curl up in bed with good pizza and some wine and watch a good movie yeah? If you’re tired of the predictable plots of typical rom-coms, you should probably check out a few unconventional romantic movies. In most romantic love stories, the obstacles men and women face are usually just misunderstandings and personalities that seem incompatible at first. However, couples in unconventional romantic movies have to deal with all sorts of crazy problems. Here’s a look at a few of these twisted movies about love :
1. Her (2013)
Theodore is a lonesome middle-aged man who just got out of a painful divorce. The only sources of happiness in his life are his friends and his favourite video games that keep him company at nights. It is at this point of his life that the long-awaited OS1 will become available for purchase, marketed as the first operational system with an actual consciousness. After buying it and installing it, Theodore soon becomes infatuated with its voice, Samantha, who becomes his constant companion and platonic lover. Real relationships are hard to form and sustain while artificial intelligence are always open to customization and is here to satisfy every single one of your needs. Afraid to step out in the real world and risk being hurt all over again, he entrusts all of his real cravings to a fake pre-constructed non-existence.
2. The Perks of Being A Wallflower (2012)
“I know there are people who say all these things don’t happen, I know these will all be stories one day, but right now, we are alive, and in this moment, I swear we are infinite.” Unlike your usual romantic comedy, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is the journey of a young introvert fresher who befriends two seniors who show him the other side of the world. In his journey to rediscover himself, he falls in love with the enigmatic Sam played by Emma Watson. A moving tale, this one is totally heartfelt.
3. A Lot Like Love (2005)
While flying from Los Angeles to New York, the “good boy” Oliver Martin meets the “bad girl” Emily Friehl and they have sex in the restroom. They stayed together along the day in New York, when Oliver discloses the planning of his life – his future career, successful job and then raising a family. He gives the phone number of his mother to Emily and asks her to call six years later to check. For seven years, they occasionally meet each other, and in the end, their relationship becomes love.
4. 500 Days of Summer (2009)
Some of the strongest romances in real life are left unfulfilled with one of the sides being left heartbroken and wondering what went wrong. (500) Days of Summer is a film precisely about these unfortunate occasions, featuring Tom, a young man whose love for Summer was just not meant to be. The two heroes meet all of the requirements that would allow them to become a great couple; they work at the same workplace, share the same interests in arts and are both clever and fiery. But while Tom gives his soul for them to be together, Summer refuses to show signs of true commitment making cynical proclamations about love being nothing more than a myth.
5. Love, Rosie (2014)
Rosie Dunne (Lily Collins) and Alex Stewart (Sam Claflin) have known each other since they were kids, and their relationship is poised on the knife edge of falling into something more romantic. Of course, as all good romantic dramedies will have you believe, things aren’t as easy as they seem; and the two are thrown together and pulled apart over a decade. The greatest obstacle being that the stars never seem to align in the right order for them to be together. Eventually, something has to give, and it looks like Rosie just might be the one to make the final call in this game of love and friendship.
