1. Babadook (2014)

Shown at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and praised as Rotten Tomatoes’ 3rd best film of the year, Babadook is the story of widow, Amelia, who has raised her 6-year-old son, Sam, by herself after her husband’s passing. Sam exhibits weird behaviour and begins to build weapons to fight against what Amelia deems as an imaginary creature. But little does she know that the strange events that begin to pile up are the work of a mysterious entity that has emerged from a pop-up storybook…

2. It Follows (2015)

You may not look at sexual intercourse the same way again as Jay gets a haunting curse from her new boyfriend Hugh after a night of passion. Learning that the curse is passed via intercourse, Jay discovers that death comes in many forms, familiar or not. As her impending doom creeps ever closer and closer, Jay’s friends band together to help her escape or fight the curse that seems unstoppable.

3. Shadow of the Vampire (2000)

Set in a time when vampires actually die and not glitter like diamonds in sunlight, we follow the film exploits of F.W. Murnau as he is obsessed with making the most authentic vampire movie ever. To achieve this, he hires Max Schreck, a self proclaimed vampire. The film crew is skeptical at first but when people start to go missing, growing suspicions start to arise. Looking for a way to escape, they are stopped by Murnau himself, as he will do anything to get the film he wants…

4. You’re Next (2013)

The Davidsons are rich but internally they have family issues. To mend things, Aubrey and Paul Davidson ask their 4 children out on a family retreat to mend broken ties. What starts out as a normal family affair changes immediately by hostiles in animal masks armed with crossbows. Chaos ensues and the Davidsons must learn to live as a family to survive… or die as one.

5. Trick ‘r Treat (2009)

Trick ‘r Treat is an anthology horror film with 4 inter-woven Halloween horror stories. Set on Halloween night, stories include the ghosts of school bus children, a virgin dressed as Red Riding Hood doesn’t appear as innocent as she looks and an old man who hates Halloween but will soon change his mind. The stories all have one common element: Sam, a mysterious trick-or-treater with the appearance of a kid but nothing is what it seems…
