Yesterday we posted an article citing that TEALIVE might’ve copied part of local custom motorcycle lifestyle brand MUTHA PUAKA’s tagline “Never Bully The Weak, Never Fear The Strong“. You can read the full article here.
After reaching out to the guys at Mutha Puaka for their feedback on this matter, they have released a statement regarding the matter. Check it out below:
Never copy the clever. It was brought to our attention that Tealive is using a line from our motto. Mutha Puaka’s motto is “Never Bully The Weak, Never Fear The Strong”. It has been in use since 2014.Tealive has been using the line ‘never fear the strong’ in their manifesto print ad, and on the purple covers of their cups. Mr Bryan Loo, CEO of Loob Holdings Sdn Bhd has been quoted in interviews saying, “we want to be the brand that protects the weak and isn’t afraid of the strong”.Mutha Puaka is a brand that aims to inspire. But it is wrong for Tealive to use the exact line of our motto ‘never fear the strong’ to sell their products. On the evening of Thursday, 23 February 2017, a cease and desist letter was delivered to Tealive. This motto is the code we live our lives by, and we simply cannot stand by and watch it being trivialised as a marketing tool to sell tea.Mutha Puaka is a custom motorcycle lifestyle brand/community built on the love of motorcycles. We are a small outfit, and we represent the lifestyle we are strongly involved in.Tealive/Loob Holdings Sdn Bhd is an established company with far more resources than Mutha Puaka. For them to use our motto out of context feels like they are completely missing the point of the phrase. They are exercising their right to bully the weak. We will exercise our right to not fear the strong.
Now the ball is in Tealive / Loob Holdings court. Lets see what they have to say about the matter. Stay tuned!
