Be Bothered about “Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered”

Flipping the urban skate term ‘Can’t Be Bothered’ on its head, Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered is a visual exploration of youth rebellion through skate culture that manifests in the featured works of 16 artists and collectives hailing from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Each artist exhibits an artwork using skateboards as a primary medium to challenge existing stereotypes, reconstruct new narratives in skate culture through different creative styles and visual expressions. The exhibition also showcases the urban, street DIY and visual culture, all of which are coexisting subcultures that are increasingly popular today.

Curated by Iman Ismail, Cannot Be Bo(a)rdered’s lineup of artists have backgrounds as varied as their styles such as Donald Abraham, Bambang “Toko” Witjaksono, Farizwari Fajari,  Popok Tri Wahyudi and Yasee Poh . Assembling to present a riot of expression are graffiti scene pioneers, trained fine artists, self-taught illustrators, graphic designers and architects.

The free-entry exhibition is currently held at Urbanscapes House, Medan Pasar since 23rd April and will go on till this coming 8th May. If you’re interested in immersing yourself in a visual storytelling experience on this youthful and energetic culture, do pay the exhibition a visit!
