Those keeping up with footwear giant Vans‘ dabbling in the music space will know that the Vans Musicians Wanted Malaysia Stop was held successfully last Saturday. Seven musicians, who were shortlisted out of 100 entries, competed with each other for a slot to perform on the main stage of House of Vans Singapore Stop this 24th September.
Dirgahayu, Iqbal M, Lawalah Familia, Young Thousand, The Humming Birds, 199x and Volatile battled musically at KL Venue for 4 hours, where each band were given 20 minutes to impress the judges. The judges’ evaluation of their talent were divided into four categories, namely creativity, originality, style and band appeal.
Jennifer Thompson was among the panel of judges aside from Smek of Killeur Calculateur and Elijah from Vans Singapore & Malaysia. Apparently, the judges had difficulty deciding on the winner as they were all very talented and gave great performances. Malaysia Boleh, eh?
In the end, Lawalah Familia emerged the champion and secured their spot at the main stage of House of Vans Singapore Stop! Meanwhile, Volatile received the highest number of online votes, prompting the judges to allow the band to also make it’s presence known in Singapore this 24th September!
Here are some other accolades that were awarded to some of the musicians present:
Champion – Lawalah Familia & Volatile
Best Vocal – Sean from Volatile

Best Bass – DJ Ruckes from Lawalah Familia
Best Guitarist – Justin from Young Thousands
Best Drummer – Seikan from Dirgahayu
