“Out of the shadows, and into the limelight”
Main Wayang: ‘Hikayat Sang Kancil’ kicks off Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival 2016 this upcoming 22th August 2015 (Saturday) as part of its first Satellite Show. The traditional ‘wayang kulit’ or shadow puppet show is approached in a more playful aspect which is created by the combination of digital animation and live acting. In contrary to its origin which takes us back more than 250 years in the past, within its most popular and celebrated area of our country in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, particularly Kelantan. Not to forget the aid of visual and sound effects to complete this brainchild of DAM Interactive under the direction of Fairuz Sulaiman, an active individual of the local arts scene. DAM Interactive will also be joining forces with the children of Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) – an NGO working with at-risk children and youth in Malaysia. The performance will be done entirely by the children of YCK with Fairuz and his team having set up workshops, designs and music for Hikayat Sang Kancil towards their first Satellite Show, which he has mentioned to be a fun and educational process for the whole crew of #YSDAF2016.
Be charmed by the art of wayang, only this time around by witnessing the fun spin-off of the beloved and well-known Sang Kancil fable we all grew up with reading or being read to. The show is open to the public and is free of charge and will be held at Laman Standard Chartered, Kuala Lumpur.
