Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders is the BOMB.
Older geeks gushing over the Gotham Knight will likely find this revamped classic a visual and evocative treat. For the younger generation of Batman lovers though, mental adjustments might be required to stomach the animation’s deviance from the emotionally-disturbed, superlatively dour and indomitable Batman of more modern times. This Batman is far more comic relief that the super genius detective-crime fighter we’re used to.
The spiritual successor-of-sorts to the classic Batman TV series of the 60s, this movie expends tons of silly, pun-filled and humorous jokes much like the original live action series it pays homage to. The animation also resurrects the iconic comic wording sound effects like “POW!” and “BOOF” that was the norm back in the day. It’s a visual element that’s nostalgic for old timers, entertaining for kids and a little silly for everyone, in a good way of course!
Back in the day before we had Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck and Christian Bale as our Dark Knight, we had Adam West and Burt Ward as the original actors for Batman and Robin respectively in the classic TV series. Now these two actors lend their voices in the animated 60s reboot, which is perfectly considering the film displays a much lighter, humorous side of the caped crusader over the now more well known darker, serious side.
In addition, Julie Newmar also makes her return as the voice of Catwoman in this 79-minute cartoon awesomeness.
The story in this reboot revolves around stopping the nefarious schemes of four of Gotham’s most wanted villains, namely The Joker, Catwoman, Penguin and The Riddler. These iconic scoundrels combine their strengths against the Dynamic Duo and threaten Gotham City once again.
