After the huge success of the Kotarayaku album in 2014, Altimet has returned to surprise fans with a new song and music video in SERU. Undoubtedly, no Malaysian rapper has brought forth a genuine signature style like Altimet has. His individual aesthetic resonates the spirit of the pioneers of hip hop culture, who are the unchallenged purveyors of pure rap artistry.
His latest single SERU, is testimony to Altimet’s ability to continue to dish out a personal and poetic brand of laid back sounds that spotlight solid rhymes over slick grooves and sick beats. The glossiness of the sound impress, but underneath the smooth tribute to the sounds of the old skool style, lies a staple of pure lyrical genius. Dropping lines like “Aku disekolahkan MC zaman silam”, he effectively relates about the hip-hop industry as he calls upon the core of his brand in his influences of the pioneers of hip hop that he pays homage to by name. Unlike most who attempt but fail, Altimet manages to smoothly craft a balanced cynical approach to his razor sharp commentary while staying classy in his delivery.
Produced and composed by Emir Hermono, with lyrics by Altimet himself, SERU’s video like the song – is a visualization of the mood of the track – dark, with enigmatic pops of fierceness in red and fire. Produced by TheMalaya TV from Paranormalaya Productions Sdn Bhd, directed by Zalhilman Ismail and edited by Azuan Adnan, the video features some unlikely co-stars in a spider, a snake, a cat and an owl named Bobo. There’s also a profound scene of a pair of iconic kicks going up in flames!
