If you haven’t taken a listen to Modescape yet, we highly recommend you do. Modescape was founded by Shah (Vocal & Guitar) and Arez (Drums) where at that time, they both were in different bands, playing different kind of music. They have decided to bring their venture towards another level, thus recruited GG (Guitar) and Kidd (Bass). Offering Alternative Rock as their sole genre, and citing 30 Seconds To Mars, Don Broco, and Paramore as part of their influence, Modescape has successfully released 2 singles; “Hilang” and “Kembali” back in 2014.
Exclusively on Masses, we had a chance for a little chit chat session with Arez where he explains about the single “Hilang” and the idea behind their very first music video. Read all about it below:-
1. How did the idea of the music video come about?
The idea came once the single has been released. Most of our friends and fans wanted us to do a music video for the song. The idea of the story was about a girl whom a drug addict then became sick with her addiction. She wanted to come clean once and for all.
The story in this music video is strongly based on the song’s lyrics.
2. I’ve noticed you stated that the song ‘Hilang’ is dedicated to the ones affected by the MH370’s tragedy. And basically, you guys aren’t the first to do a song about that particular incident. In that case, what makes ‘Hilang’ so unique?
Well, the song ‘Hilang’ was never meant to be about any tragedy that occurs. Coincidental is the best word to describe it. We wrote the song in the late 2013 then we finished recording the song at the exact week the moment MH370 went missing. As we stated in our YouTube channel, it was never meant to be a tribute song or such it’s just we’re as a human being are emotionally affected by the tragedy and composing a song is one of our ways to share the sadness of the incident with others. The song is personally unique for all of our band members because it was the most creative song writing session at that moment and we are really happy with the end product.
3. Describe how was the process of making this music video. Any memorable moments you guys would like to share?
Personally me as the co-director of the music video, I can say that the process is quite tough because we shoot in different places. First off was on the hill at Puncak Perdana where we wanted to capture the morning sunrise. The hardest part was to carry all of our equipment on the hill. It was quite high and far and there was no access to any land transportation. Second of all, the weather. It was really hot, especially when we’re shooting full band shots at exactly 12PM. For the story line scenes, it took us another 6 months to continue the production mainly because the talent, storyline and crew commitment issues. But it all went well eventually and I’m very glad with the outcome and everyone’s involvement in this music video.
4. So any upcoming plans after this? Maybe an album? Or another single? If there is an album planning going on, what’s the direction going to be?
We are planning on releasing an EP by the end of the year. So, we’re in the course of creating new music for the EP. The direction of the other songs and the EP as a whole will be quite similar to the materials we have released but we are trying to experiment more with our own sound, maybe a little bit progressive here and there and focusing more on the composition and arrangement of the song.
5. Any last words for your fans?
