Kayczar, a young local hip hop enthusiast and rapper from Lanun, Johor Bahru, has just dropped his debut mixtape called “Excursions”.
“The tape is called Excursions because that’s sort of what I do daily (laughs). So i really wanted to make music for people to drive to,” says Kayczar.
Through the mixtape, Kayczar attempts to bring back the kind of lyrical depth that was more common during the earlier days of rap music. It also portrays a mini journey throughout, symbolised by the separation of the letters in the cover art.
The first track embodies a desperate tone in the move to make it big in the scene, while the following couple of tracks are about him in a state of limbo between wanting something and needing something else entirely. Meanwhile, the final few tracks are essentially statements of brash determination.
Beyond this mixtape, Kayczar will be starting his gig in JB and KL as well as a music video which is currently in the process. Not only that, he is also a part of a new Dj trio by the name of Mejar Thanni with two colleagues; DJ Prithu and Roshan Menon (the photographer).
