Beatburns, a local alternative indie rock band based in Kuala Lumpur, recently released their latest chilling music video called “Ice Cream“. The band was inspired to write about unrequited love in the same way one would crave for ice cream.
“You can crave all you want and you may never get it. And everybody craves for ice cream, thus the title. The band put that as a metaphor to describe a person’s raw emotion when it comes to love. Easy to fall for, hard to get. Easy to melt hearts but also easy to become cold as ice,” said Lynd, the vocals behind Beatburns.
“The video was actually conceptualized by the director, Nasir Mehmood who also worked on various Bunkface videos and Sakura band’s music video. I told him that we would like to stay true to the concept of the song. Contrary to the title, we wanted the video to illustrate a dark, disturbing state of mind and that’s what we got!”
Lynd added that the song positions ice cream as the metaphoric symbol of want, lust and love; something that we crave for but sometimes we just can’t have.
“Because not everything that we crave for is good for us,” said Lynd.
If you are a fan of bands that are very experimental with their sound such as I Am Giant, We Are The Emergency, Circa Survive or Of Monsters and Men, Beatburns is definitely another one you should give a listen to.
