Channeling ‘Alvvays’ Vibes

We’re experiencing pretty good times in the music scene right now. New music is always at the forefront, new bands are formed, and new sounds emerge that always adds another flavour into the stirring pot that is the Malaysian music scene. One of those new entries is a musical ensemble that makes itself a conduit for indie pop/dream pop to flourish and grow, otherwise known as Jetcetera.

The band’s new single is a familiar premise that we’ve all been through at some point, so it’s not a complete outlier of our emotional spectrum. The song revolves around being in a limbo of wanting to work it out and wanting to end the relationship, an ambiguity of whether is it worth continuing or to leave. It’s contradictory at best, regretting the end that you saw coming a mile away.

Melody wise, it’s an easy get go. Smooth vocals with upbeat guitars and drumming adds a certain level of urgency to its indecision, conveying desperation combined with conflicting solutions make for a very heartfelt song that we’ve come to known in the times we’ve put behind.

One can only wonder whether the band’s EP will be a compilation of songs in the same vein, or a kaleidoscope that explores the whole spectrum of emotions through its dream-esque music. One thing’s for certain though. A new sound on our shores? We welcome it with open arms.
