The seemingly Laga Gaga-inspired electropop talent, Ze Rebelle is enroute back into star-spangled limelight with an upcoming album slated for release this 8th August.

In conjunction with the local artist’s new album titled “UNIVERZE”, Ze will also be releasing a debut short film bearing the same name. The self-directed film was shot in Belgium in collaboration with Belgian cinematographer Swampz Mushi. The film’s trailer can be seen below:

The album is Ze’s labour of love over the last 18 months with Paris-based producer DocOlv and is a 14-track offering that revisits good old 80s electro sounds. Thanks to its retro leanings, “UNIVERZE” is equal parts nostalgia-inducing and a peculiar audio experience. Half the time the music makes you feel like you are in an à la Tron-styled pixelated realm with flashing neon lights. This is especially true for the album’s anthem, “The Glam Mothership” featuring Ze’s long-time Belgian collaborator DUSAAR.

Beside DUSAAR, the album will also feature Italian duo Vegamoore, Australian artist Tomás Ford, British producer Abstract Source, German producer Ego Boycott, French producer Richard Bahericz and Ze’s mysterious part-time lover McFLYYY.

It’s not an all-English album either; “Bintang” is the offering’s sole Malay language track and there’s even a French track titled Je Ne Parle Pas Français”.

“Like my past 2 albums, it’s been a very personal journey to get here. Where I cant speak my mind in real life, I speak with my heart through music,” Ze says.

You can pre-order the album now via iTunes or Bandcamp. Do remember to check in on Ze Rebelle by visiting her facebook page!
