The color red has and always will attract attention and what better way to make a statement than this coming Valentine’s Day. Like a peacock displaying its feathers, sneakerheads also seek attention from the opposite sex on this lovey-dovey day. For this year’s edition of V-Day, we have compiled a special list of sneakers you can rock on this special occasion.
Do let us know your thoughts or comments at the bottom.
1. Asics “Romance Pack” (February 2015)
2015 could be a good year for Asics with this pack turning up the heat for you lovebirds out there. Inspired by the red colour from the roses, the Gel Lyte V is decked out in red with hints of black and white throughout. The Gel Lyte 3 on the other hand is inspired by chocolates and utilizes brown, grey and white colours while sitting atop a gum sole. Both look good enough to eat and girls, they even come in your size. Although the pack has already seen a worldwide release, we are still awaiting word whether this pack will be hitting our stores or not, but regardless, you can still source them easily from the internet.
2. Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Moire “White/Challenge Red” (December 2014)
Using the classic colorway of the original, you can’t go wrong with these clean, crispy shoes. The model has been updated with a breathable upper in white and red throughout the panels and the signature Nike swoosh. Guys, if you have sweaty, smelly feet, get these, and you’ll stay fresh on your date. Even in the morning after. If you know what we mean.
3. New Balance 996 “Valentine’s Day” (December 2011)
Heart-shaped lace locks? Check. Insole covered with heart shapes? Check. Shoe upper in red? Check. This Valentine-themed sneaker made many hearts aflutter and to seal the deal, these were made with premium materials. Oo-la-la.
4. Reebok Classic Leather Vintage “Union Red” (January 2013)
Red has been always been a hot color and these classic Reebok shoes are no exception. A full red along with the signature logo make these a looker and that gum sole will make you stand out among the crowd. Couples looking for matching shoes can look this up!
5. Jordan Retro 5 GS “Valentine’s Day” (December 2012)
Jordan sneakerheads, check this out. Using red and pink as the primary colors, these are guaranteed to turn heads and possibly a few wolf whistles as you walk by in these. The blue sole and the heart-shaped basketball logo on the side are a plus to female hoop fans. Too bad the guys won’t be able to wear these as these were only made for the ladies but….
6. Air Jordan V Retro “Raging Bull” (May 2009)
… you could wear these instead! If you guys have them, treasure them; they are rare and hard to find these days (or resell prices may be just too high). A great colourway to rock during Valentine’s, the high quality red suede is loud but not overly. Nice clear outsoles with some black and white colors on the midsole make this a winner.
7. New Balance 997 “Rose” x Concepts (November 2014)
Released in conjunction with their New York boutique opening, these are great to rock on a date. Made with smooth suede and a reflective, crocodile-patterned tongue, quality on these are superb but that’s what you would expect from a New Balance Made in USA pair. Don’t let the color deter you; who says men can’t wear pink sneakers?
8. Nike Air Force 1 “Valentine’s Day” (2003)
This shoe was released a year before the Nike Dunk Low “Valentine’s Day” and is Nike’s first Valentine-themed shoe. Made for the ladies, these were made with smooth, buttery red nubuck and a white swoosh. Nothing screams love for the boyfriend/hubby more than this classic with the heart-shaped logos on the tongue and side. Damn… we wish these were made in men sizes as well.
9. adidas ZX5000 RSPN 90s “Run Through Time Pack” (October 2013)
Arguably the best looking in the pack, the colors on these kicks make it stand out. The runner is draped primarily in bright red with a dash of mint green on the midsole. Made with synthetic suede and mesh, the colorway on these runners can double up as your go-to-shoes come Christmas time!
10. Vans x Curtis Kulig “Love Me Collection” (January 2013)
Released for the rebellious at heart, this pack came in 3 models: Authentic, Slip-On and Sk8-Hi. The signature of Kulig’s ‘Love Me’ covers the Authentic and Slip-On for men while the Sk8-Hi for the ladies was given a black/red colorway also featuring Kulig’s trademark.
Bonus Pick:
Begins x PUMA Trinomic XS850 “Valentines Day” (February 2015)
This sneaker’s colorway is pretty eye catching though it may be a little too bold for the guys. Made for couples, this variation of the XS850 strays away from the traditional red and uses a sakura pink/mint green combo instead. Mesh and suede covers the upper, while a musical note and a heart icon are featured in the insole and heel respectively. Look out for this limited release come Valentine’s Day 2015.
adidas Originals Attitude “Logo Heart”
Sorry guys, if you like big tongues on your sneakers, this was unfortunately, made for the ladies. The uppers are covered in red leather, sat on a white midsole with extra padding on the tongue. If your guy is finding it hard to understand how much you love him when you say it, say no more and just show him the heart-shaped tongues.
