One thing that catches you after seeing the ACRONYM Vapormax Moc 2 is how visually striking it looks, and it’s a task ACRONYM founder Errolson Hugh has done in aces. This is practically new ground for Hugh, as previous collaborations with Nike employed archive models, like the Lunar Force One, and Presto to name a few. The usage of the Vapormax Moc 2 however, represents the perfect canvas for mating modern minimalistic design to ACRONYM’s trademark industrial and technical approach.
From the standard shoe, there have been no changes to the altering of the structure, with Hugh adding in that there is absolutely “nothing retro about it.” Unlike previous models which included extra heel tabs, zips and add-ons that makes the shoe easier to wear. The most significant change then to the shoe, is on the aesthetic front.
First looks of the shoe sees a camo pattern covering the entirety of the knit area, and upon closer inspection, resembles the A in the ACRONYM logo, transformed into a grid to form the visual foundation of the silhouette. The design evokes a mix of the art of disguise, and an unexpected vision of the future.
The silhouette is completed with a fully painted speckled midsole, resembling a starry night sky on the frontier, a modified heel clip and bold texture treatments reflect Errolson’s high-tech aesthetic.
The ACRONYM X Air Vapormax Moc 2 is priced at USD 225 (approximately RM 880) on the 26th of April at 10am EDT (or 10pm local time) at Nike. Good luck trying to cop a pair for retail.
