First revealed in Adidas’ collaboration with Dragon Ball Z to produce 7 different silhouettes, each representing a different Dragon Ball character (of which the Kamanda represented Majin Buu), the Kamanda finally gets a general release, dropping end of this month in two neutral colourways, “Core Black” and “Collegiate Burgundy.”

A possible follow up to the Adidas Samba of old, the Kamanda draws inspirations from the UK-based Terrace movement of the early 80s and 90s (mostly associated with football hooliganism and stolen designer clothing), giving birth to a new narrative besides the ongoing dad shoe hype.

The Kamanda distincts itself by the aggressively sculpted outsole, covering a suede upper with perforations that make out the Three Stripes logo, much in style like the Stan Smiths. Kamanda branding is also stamped on the lateral side of the shoe, completing the look. Apart from the Dragon Ball Z collaboration, renowned Italian clothing company C.P Company has also teased a capsule collection with Adidas including the company’s signature Explorer jacket with Dark Red Kamandas with dual branding on the insole and tongue.

Prices go for around USD 150 (Approximately RM 590) for the General Release models will hit adidas selected stores and online, but no prices announced as of yet for the collaboration models. What do you think of these shoes? Next step forward in Adidas, or a signal in a shortage of ideas?
