1999 was a lot of things for everyone. It was the turn of the millennium for the most of us, I had just turned 4, and we’re on a hyperjump when it comes to technology. For David Beckham however, it transcends all that. He was on a career high, had just married Posh from Spice Girls, and had his first child, and led Manchester United to score the treble in the English Premier League. Momentous is an understatement.

Hence why in the latest edition of the Ultraboost 19, adidas have decided to pay homage to this very significant year with Beckham, naming the running shoe the Ultraboost 19 DB99. Inspiration is fairly obvious, with DB standing for his initials and 99 the significant year that he wants to share with the world.

“1999 was an important year for me, in terms of both career development and personal life. So, this pair of shoes is extraordinarily special to me,” said David in an interview. “The colours chosen for the design are white with a flash of orange. I have always loved white trainers. The eye-catching fluorescent orange and the letters DB99 in black are a perfect match.”

DB99 is printed on the tongue and soles of the shoe, whilst the breathing pads on the sides and sole have been enlarged for better breathability during training. Elsewhere, the Ultraboost 19 upgrades the missing pieces of the Ultraboost, featuring more Boost in the midsole, a new type of knit called the 360 Primeknit Vamper, while retaining the Torsion System to ensure stability during running.

The adidas Ultraboost X DB99 is set to retail at RM 850 and is available to purchase at all major adidas outlets in Kuala Lumpur and Genting.
