The One Star returns along with the rise of four Malaysian anti-heroes of the youth. Each of the Converse chosen anti-heroes represents the behavior of counter-culture; impulsive, audacious and fearless, characteristics that resonate with the One Star spirit. Far from your typical social media influencers, thus they are Rated One Star, as in rated 1 out of 5 stars. The four anti-heroes come together to celebrate those that don’t care about what people think about them or rate them, they express the ethos of defying mainstream while rocking the Converse One Star resurgence in their own way.
Dancer by day, DJ by night. Arliana has rhythm inborn through her veins. Arliana’s intuitions is a proper ‘Rated One Star’ attitude that aligns both with her dance and music. Arliana’s management to juggle two of her passion is what empowers her as an entertainer and made her well versed in the industry. She first fell in love with dance when she picked up ballerina at the age of 8 and ever since, she’s been living in the limelight for around 20 years. Her talent in dance turned into a profession over the years of hard work and dedication as a choreographer. She recently choreographed for Anugerah Juara Lagu 32’s opening act which marks her proudest achievement so far. In addition to being a judge for Fit for Fashion Season 1 and being a part of Peter Pan Asia tour, the best part of her job is the frequent travels for dance classes overseas, all over Europe and her favorite country, Japan.
Through all her dance achievements, Arliana came a long way from where she started, at one point she decided to take two years off dancing. During the break, she discovered her next calling which was DJ-ing, where she hustled through the music industry and have secured her spot in the scene for 10 years and counting.
Most entertainers have an alter ego on stage, so does Arliana who is feistier on stage that naturally allures the audience’s attention to her. “To be honest, as a dancer, I may seem confident is because I let my alter ego shine but off stage, I’m not as confident as I’d like to be,” she says. Arliana overcomes inner battles just as how every other individual can relate to, she brushes off judgments from anyone and not taking offense to anything personally. “Sometimes you can give a damn, but you don’t have to give a damn,” she states.
She wears what makes her confident whether it’s bold or glamorous, she loves changing up her style and hairdo, occasionally pulls off beautiful African braids. The similarity she has with the Converse One Star is her fashion style which is simple enough to make a statement yet stylish.
A fun fact about Arliana is that she can’t sit still for too long and dance is the only way she is able to fully express herself, may it be a dance-off due to a broken heart or to release any form of negativity she face in life. Arliana remains humble in the limelight as she remembers the struggle and hard work it took her to cultivate to get to where she is today. Her creativity is constantly fuelled by her intensity and driven passion while staying humble in all her endeavors. Her passionate spirit and dedication is the link between herself and Converse to front their ‘Rated One Star’ campaign.
The Rated One Star campaign is in lieu of the One Star introduction by Converse Spring 2018 that takes cues from Tyler The Creator, GOLF Le FLEUR’s line. The Converse Spring 2018 collection renewed it’s icon status to release the classic One Star featuring an original Converse eye-popping bold print on a ‘hairy’ suede material. The Converse One Star 2018 collection is available at all Converse stores.
Meet Arliana, one of the four anti-heroes up close and personal as fans can witness them customizing the One Star shoe during the co-creation session that will be held at Sole What, The Gardens on the 15th March 2018, from 1PM to 6PM.
