No one would’ve seen this coming to be honest. In an effort to expand and get to know the local sneaker scene, ASICS has teamed up with retailer Hundred% and sneaker convention Sneakerlah to produce a shoe based on Malaysia’s favourite food, the nasi lemak.
The GEL-Kayano 5 takes centre stage as colours of the ‘Nasi Lemak’ are blocked onto the shoe, with off-white representing the rice and egg white, green reflecting the cucumber, red to signify the sambal, yellow to symbolise the yolk, and finished off with hints of brown to reflect the nuts and anchovies.
Of course, performance aspects aren’t left behind too. The ASIS GEL-Kayano 5 OG is one of the more comfortable shoes on the market, liberally adding GEL inserts to the midsole to absorb and repel impact as much as possible.
Getting them won’t be as easy though. The shoes are dropping exclusively at Sneakerlah this 5th and 6th October at a retail price of RM 599 with only 500 units available. So book your tickets quick, and you’ll be well advised to spend a bit more on the VIP pass should you want one in your collection.
