Some of you are fond, others might despise, but there is no denying that Nike Air Max 97 is one of the best silhouettes to have graced the Air Max range. Designed by Christian Tresser, the iconic silhouette resembles the prolific high-speed bullet train of Japan. Since its first debut, we were fortunate to see the shoe clad in many different colour ways and iterations, but the first original, the “Silver Bullet” is certainly the forefront of the line. As it was reissued for the 20th anniversary last year, Nike brought the true 90’s sensation back for the sneaker community, as well as the public eye to reminisce where did it all started.

In conjunction with the 20th anniversary, we have seen a surge of collaborations upon collaborations for the Air Max 97 that took the sneaker community by storm. Just looking back at last year’s release, we get to see models form the likes of Undefeated and Off-White, as well with artists and athletes as Skepta and Cristiano Ronaldo came to fruition and as every sneaker head would expect, it was an instant hit.

With such huge names tied to the silhouette, there is always a constant admonition that there are no guarantees that you can easily grab a pair. In light of this problem, what sneaker enthusiasts (and even casuals) doesn’t realise is that there are numerous and great colour ways of Air Max 97 that is not exclusive nor limited. Some of them might have been sold out but it wasn’t much of a hassle as compared to lining up overnight for the Off-White’s (or just any other big sneaker release). Without further adieu, these are the best five colour ways of the Nike Air Max 97 that are still (and might be) out for grabs. Did we missed out on any great colour ways of the 97? Let us know!

Smokey Mauve

One of the best general release of 2018 is the Nike Air Max 97 “Smokey Mauve”. Layered with rich colours of mauve and navy, the suede texture is the perfect look on the 97 for the long and hot summer. From a standpoint, Nike could’ve made this an exclusive release but we shouldn’t complain.

South Beach

Along these veins of summertime madness, Nike Air Max 97 “South Beach” is surely not to be missed. Perfected with kinetic green and hot pink, this look will definitely stand apart from everyone else in your immediate vicinity.

OG Japan

An OG palette transplanted form the AM95 to the AM97. A history filled colourway, that only the ones who know, know. Of course , nobody will exactly question or ask regarding its heritage, but its a flash pop that balances understatement with flair.

Grey Blue

Otherwise known as the Michigan Wolverine, the colour mimics that of the palette found on the state’s football team. A singular yellow line on the bottom line ensures a pop of colour, alternated by ‘Wolf Grey’ accents and ‘Navy Blue’ hues, finished with a yellow swoosh. While not officially sanctioned, it still won’t hurt to rep a lil bit of America.

Triple White

This is your staple. All you’ll ever need in a white shoe, and combined with the iconic design of the silhouette, ensures that the title of cleanest pair goes to you. Shame it’ll be a bit of a bitch to take care of though.
