Effective from January 2020, Nike CEO Mark Parker is stepping down from his role, instead to become a board member with John Donahoe taking over as the next in line to lead the company.

Parker has worked with Nike for four decades, starting out as a footwear designer for the brand in 1979, and working his way up to become CEO in 2006.

John Donahoe, an ex-eBay CEO is not exactly a stranger to Nike, having already involved with the strategic process and actively engaged with Nike’s senior management team.

What this means for Nike, nobody can speculate, but after what Parker has done for the company, it’s safe to say that Donahoe has got his work cut out for him. Parker will now serve as an executive chairman, guiding Donahoe to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.
