One For The History Buffs

If you’ve picked up a copy of Mark Parker’s memoir, Shoe Dog, you may have come across Parker detailing several different names before landing on the one we all know all too well, Nike.

Dimension Six, Falcon, were all names that the now CEO and co-founder Bill Bowerman had thought of and played around during the times where they were still distributing Onitsuka Tiger Corsairs under the Blue Ribbon Sports guise. Eventually, the name Nike was chosen, and in an attempt to split itself from Onitsuka Tiger altogether, created the Cortez and went on to make history.

Of course, the Cortez is probably Nike’s most significant shoe to date, and it’s only fair that this piece of history is reflected on arguably its most important model to date. The ‘Shoe Dog’ pack reflects the alternate names that the duo had thought about, and is embroidered on the medial portion of the shoe.

One to note is that the pack also includes an abnormally skinny swoosh-ed Cortez that happens to be the original designed penned by designer Carolyn Davidson. Nice nod.

The overall shoe construction also stays true to its original design, featuring an ultra-slim and sleek leather upper, leather heel tab, and rubber toe bumper, almost somewhat similar to the OT’s that they’ve been importing all this while.

Regardless, this is one for the collectors, for the Beaverton buffs, who pay homage to Swoosh, and all that it stands for. Scroll through the pictures, and stay tuned for more details.
