One of South Africa’s most renown sneaker boutique, Shelflife, have collaborated with local artist/designer Dr. Zulu and New Balance to produce the New Balance “City Of Gold” 574. The name of this pair is inspired by South Africa’s largest city, Johannesburg which is also known as the City of Gold and the inspiration behind the video clip below and also the graphics on the pair is a critter that can only be found in Johannesburg called the “Parktown Prawn”, a king cricket that has a reputation for being indestructible.

The upper is built by a combination of mesh, nubuck and pigskin suede. As we have mentioned above, the shoe takes it’s inspiration from the city of Johannesburg and it’s culture, so almost every aspect of the shoe reflects that. The yellow and grey colors seen on the pair is reflecting the colors of the local train system, while there are added stylized diamond symbols standing in for traditional African tribal artwork. Added details of the shoe feature two interchangeable velcro “N” logos, an extra set of laces, canvas dust bag and a rubber prawn keyring.

The pair will be launching tomorrow (10/5/14) at Sole What ( Gardens Store Only ) and will be retailing at RM469.
