UPDATE: The shoe has been rescheduled for release on the 4th of July, with all the other shoes in the ZoomX pack.
The next iteration of the supposedly fastest running shoe Nike has ever made is gracing us commoners. Welcome everyone, to the ZoomX Vaporfly Next%.
Of course, you may think that Nike’s claims that this is literally the fastest running shoe in the world can be swatted aside and say that it isn’t substantiated and it’s all marketing jargon, but the science behind it proves otherwise. Since the Breaking2 Project happened, Nike’s been working in close proximity with its athletes in order to make them perform better, and at an unprecedented level. 4% efficiency in running economy proved to be a a massive gain in the playing field, dominating marathon everywhere for the past 2 years, and now, Nike is closing in even further in its pursuit to create the best running shoe ever.
Which has resulted in this. Quite literally the pinnacle of Nike’s existing technology catalog, with nothing else expended.
Recall back then that athletes complained that the Flyknit absorbed sweat, and in that instance, made the running shoe heavier. Hence, the new model includes improved sweat wicking capabilities through a lighter fabric, even lighter than Flyknit that doesn’t absorb as much water. The overall shape of the midsole is also modified to increase stability even in dry and wet conditions, as well as pumping in more ZoomX into the midsole.
Despite these additions though, the shoe weighs exactly the same as its predecessor.
Of course, this is for the serious runner, but it also makes for one seriously comfortable everyday shoe, should you choose to do so.
All this tech too doesn’t come at a cheap price. The Zoomx Vaporfly Next% retails at approximately RM 1140, and releases on the 29th of June at Nike.com.
