Art Of A Champion, Kawhi Leonard’s 2014 NBA MVP Air Jordan 1 Releasing

Four years ago, Jordan brand released a few Air Jordan 1’s to honor Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin and more. This year, Jordan Brand is releasing a pair of Air Jordan 1 to commemorate Kawhi Leonard’s MVP-winning performance during the 2014 NBA Finals for their ‘Art of a Champion’ collection. The Air Jordan 1 is given an eye-catching Metallic Silver, White and Black colorway where detailing of the sneaker includes 16 check marks motif that represent the number of wins needed to get through the playoffs and to win the Finals. A ‘2014’ gold lace lock and Leonard’s hand logo on the tongue, right shoe’s insole, and outsoles are some of the small details that were crafted specifically for this pair. If those details were not convincing enough, remember to check out the gold lace tips and gold hangtag which comes along with the pair.

Expect this to release on the 28th of April, with a price tag of RM559 on Nike.

SPÄNST Collection, By Stampd & Maja Ganszyniec, An IKEA Collaboration

For many, the home is an extension of who we are and how we live through our daily routines. What is better than storing, displaying and admiring your possessions in style in your very own personal space? A limited edition collection SPÄNST is crafted to furnish the homes and the streets for the active, urban nests of today. The collection is designed in collaboration with Chris Stamp, the LA-based fashion designer and creative director of Stampd, where SPÄNST emphasizes on the beauty in terms of aesthetics when it comes to organizing and displaying our most prized possessions. The collection is meant for consumers to uncover their lifestyle, where the essence of artistry is used to exhibit possessions indoors or outdoors.

SPÄNST’s starting point was to explore the changes and needs of young, urban consumer’s homes today. A number of items from the collection are designed by Maja Ganszyniec, a frequent IKEA collaborator, who graduated from London Royal College of Art. She runs her design studio in Warsaw and has maintained a close relationship with IKEA since 2014. The team met in New York for the first time, surprised to find that most of their initial ideas were similar when they discussed regarding smart materials, monochrome colours with graphic elements and more. Inspired by the sports industry and the conscious consumer, these people are not only concerned with their appearance but also how they display their possessions where beautifying the interior of their space is necessary. This explains the reasoning behind some of the items in the collection such as the mesh wardrobe, transparent shoeboxes and more, where aesthetics is the priority.

The SPÄNST collection will be available May 2018 onwards, with a price range from RM12.90 to RM1,499.00. Let’s all hope that there will be enough for everyone.

Weather Report Says We Shall Anticipate The Thunder From Puma This Weekend

The Puma Thunder Spectra pays homage to collabs from the past and silhouettes ahead of their time. The silhouette was inspired by 90’s running silhouettes and Puma’s collaboration with Mcqueen where the Thunder is the product of both with emphasis on bulkiness with an unapologetic look and feel. The Thunder portrays a distinctive athletic shape with a chunky structure, using molded TPU laid over premium mesh and nubuck to reignite a sense of nostalgia. The exaggerated tooling, the blown-up proportions, and the loud color blocking helped the Thunder place its mark on the international runways.

The Thunder Spectra is a countermovement, a new era of sport fashion which carries an unconventional approach to design that breaks focus and commands attention. This pair will be released on 28 April, at Crossover and Sole What with a price tag of RM629.

adidas Kamanda Drops End Of This Month

First revealed in Adidas’ collaboration with Dragon Ball Z to produce 7 different silhouettes, each representing a different Dragon Ball character (of which the Kamanda represented Majin Buu), the Kamanda finally gets a general release, dropping end of this month in two neutral colourways, “Core Black” and “Collegiate Burgundy.”

A possible follow up to the Adidas Samba of old, the Kamanda draws inspirations from the UK-based Terrace movement of the early 80s and 90s (mostly associated with football hooliganism and stolen designer clothing), giving birth to a new narrative besides the ongoing dad shoe hype.

The Kamanda distincts itself by the aggressively sculpted outsole, covering a suede upper with perforations that make out the Three Stripes logo, much in style like the Stan Smiths. Kamanda branding is also stamped on the lateral side of the shoe, completing the look. Apart from the Dragon Ball Z collaboration, renowned Italian clothing company C.P Company has also teased a capsule collection with Adidas including the company’s signature Explorer jacket with Dark Red Kamandas with dual branding on the insole and tongue.

Prices go for around USD 150 (Approximately RM 590) for the General Release models will hit adidas selected stores and online, but no prices announced as of yet for the collaboration models. What do you think of these shoes? Next step forward in Adidas, or a signal in a shortage of ideas?

The Blacked Out Nike Epic React Is Here

Author: Nabil

For the one’s who are about to take the L on the Off-White Nike Vapormax White, here’s a complete tonal opposite for you to look at, in the form of the Nike Epic React Flyknit in full triple black form.
Nike’s new runner gets murdered out completely – all colour goes out the drain, from the swoosh, knit, midsole, even the heel cage at the back, with only a bit of blue present on the top heel portion of the midsole. The Nike Epic React comes with the brand’s new React cushioning system, which promises 13% more bounce than the previous Lunarlon foam, with a manner of only bare necessities, meaning a lightweight flyknit upper, and 2 pieces of outsole on the heel and toe for added traction during lift off and landing.

JD Sports has opened a pre-order for these black beauties on site for RM 589, so if you’re anticipating the L, might as well get these anyway. Hype is overrated.

An Unsung Hero: The Nike Cortez

Author: Nabil

To talk Cortez is to talk the entirety of Nike’s legacy, and its deep roots in running. We’re talking pre-dating way back before Air technology even existed. The Cortez, or more aptly known as the world’s first modern running shoe, defined what it took back then to deliver maximum performance and comfort for marathon runners to run without feeling the strain and reduction in injuries. Since then, it has gone on to represent itself in numerous subcultures, from Los Angeles gangsters, sports, even rappers, who only serve to advance the proverbial narrative of the silhouette.

The shoe has had a relatively quiet comeback, and despite major endorsements from the likes of Serena Williams and Kendrick Lamar (who released 2 versions of the shoe), the reception was relatively tepid, mostly because it was overshadowed by the Air Max 98 and Air Max 270. Regardless, it’s interesting to look back at a model that turns 46 years old in 2018. Born from a problem faced by long distance runners, a solution was created in the form of the Cortez, but the silhouette’s inception was a unique one, and despite its Mexican derived name, actually had its roots embedded in another brand: Onitsuka Tiger.

“A tiger hunts best when he’s hungry.” Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike carried this philosophy when he designed the Onitsuka TG-24 for marathon running, featuring an aerodynamic upper, thick foam midsole and herringbone pattern for additional grip on rough surfaces. The shoe was in tune with what runners wanted at the time and quickly became an instant hit. The silhouette then further evolved under the operation of Blue Ribbon Sports, headed by Bowerman and his business partner, Phil Knight, having added an additional name, “Mexico” in part to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games held in Mexico, 1968.

However, the team wanted a much more striking name, so they went with Aztec, only to be met with a potential lawsuit from Adidas for fringing a little bit to close to their track shoe, the “Azteca Gold.” Not wanting to go down in the courtroom, Bowerman looked up more Latin American inspirations, and settled on the Cortez, aptly named from the conquistador, Hernan Cortes, who basically colonised the Aztecs – also sending a metaphor along the way. The shoe gained immense popularity, so much that regular consumers started using them to jog in as well as gasp* wear them casually on the street.

Shortly after that, Bowerman and Knight decided to rename Blue Ribbon Sports into Nike Inc., and took the Cortez along to kickstart their own line of shoes, but Onitsuka Tiger wasn’t really having it, and thus both brands went to a legal battle over who would own the Cortez name. Despite the ongoing procession, both Onitsuka and Nike continued to sell the Cortez, until the court ruled in favour of Nike in 1974. Onitsuka yielded and changed the name to the “Tiger Corsair,” and Nike tinkered with the shoe to make it more lightweight, substituting leather for nylon, introduced the Cortez into the world of pop culture, with a little help from Forrest Gump.

The Cortez got its first big break into the mainstream market, when Jenny gifted Forrest a pair, which proceeded to unlock Forrest’s ultimate leg power that pushed him through to run across the breadth of the US for the next three years. Needless to say, it was a massive marketing success, and the Cortez’s popularity shot through the roof as a result. Prior to that, L.A street gangs have been repping the shoe since the late 80s, with the hype accredited to a song by N.W.A called Dopeman’s Nike. The importance of the Cortez within the streets was no understatement; wearing a wrong colour pair could get yourself killed if you walked up the wrong neighbourhood.

Even till now, L.A culture and the Cortez has a deep and special cultural connection, with many releases attributing back to the city from the likes of Undefeated’s collaboration with NikeLab to produce the Nike Cortez SP “LA,” Cortez “Compton” and “Long Beach” pack and in more recent times, Kendrick Lamar’s homage to his album, in the form of the “DAMN.” Cortez and “Kung-Fu Kenny” Cortez. While no longer holding the title for the world’s most advanced running shoe, overtaken from the likes of the Adidas Ultraboost, Nike Flyknit Racer, Nike Air Vapormax, even the ASICS Gel-Lyte Kayano Trainer, the Cortez remains a symbol of how far technology has come in the last few decades since its introduction, paving the way for more modern, more efficient runners and has now subsequently turned itself into an icon of it’s own, both on the track, and on the street. Whether for intensive use or just going for a casual walk, the Cortez can do it all, no sweat.

Looking to cop a piece of history? Hundred% might just have your fancy.

Walk On “AIR” With The Off-White x Nike VaporMax In White

Nike has been releasing sneakers that are too difficult to pass on, almost as if Nike assumes our money grows on trees. With Nike’s collaboration success with Virgil Abloh on The Ten collection last year, the silhouettes from The Ten returns to dominate the sneaker scene.

Another VaporMax collaboration with Off-White will be releasing tomorrow, and this time in a White colorway. The upper on this colorway features White-colored Flyknit from heel to toe with Off-White’s signature details throughout, from the stitched Swoosh logo, the printed “AIR” on the heel area, and Nike’s HQ text on the inner side of the silhouette. The air bubbles remain crystal clear for this colorway, where the icy contrast appeals to the eyes of consumers. Nike maintained the detailing of the deconstructed tongue on the VaporMax from The Ten to ensure that this colorway remains true to its core design and origins.

Expect these to sell out instantly on Nike tomorrow. Set your alarms for 9am and we wish you the best of luck.
