Get Ready For Flight, The Air Jordan 3 “UNC” Drops This Weekend

After previous exclusively releases only for the North Carolina Basketball Team, along with its high profile scandal explained by collectors Hans and Paul, the once incredibly sought after PE Jordan 3s will now be made available to the public this Saturday.

Sporting the colours of Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the “UNC” bears slight differences when it comes to colour blocking, namely the embroidered Jumpman on the tongue, eyestays, outsole and heel portion of the midsole are coloured in “North Carolina Blue” atop of a “White Cement” base. The only difference between this and the Player Exclusive edition is the absence of North Carolina University’s emblem on the tongue.

If you’re a hardcore Jordan collector, this is an absolute must have. The Air Jordan 3 “UNC” drops on 7th of March for a price of RM 775 at nike.com.

5 DOCUMENTARIES THAT YOU MIGHT’VE MISSED ON NETFLIX

Written by Harris Kassim

Have you ever realized that documentaries almost never had a proper theatrical release like all the other blockbusters and comedy films? Thank God for Netflix, now we can stream all of the great documentaries that we might have missed throughout the years. Here, I have listed down a few that you might actually have an interest in.

SHIRKERS

This is a story about a lady named Sandi Tan and two of her best friends who tried to make an indie film back in 1992, with Sandi playing the main character. They were helped by a mentor by the name of Georges Cardona who provides support financially and creatively. Suddenly once the shooting wrapped, Georges appeared to be missing with all of the footages. 20 years later, Sandi starts the journey to find the bottom of the mystery and to finally understand the meaning of ‘Shirkers’.

The way Sandi tells her misfortunate stories are so mesmerizing that it taught me that nobody can expect what the plan is going to be. Plus, despite all her film work got into a jumble of mess by her wicked mentor, she still found a way to salvage it by creating this beautiful documentary. Talking about taking the negativity into a positive outcome, Shirkers is one to remember.

JIM & ANDY: THE GREAT BEYOND

Back in 1999, Jim Carrey was offered the role to play the idiosyncratic comedian Andy Kaufman in a biography film titled Man on The Moon. The documentary follows a behind-the-scenes look at Jim Carrey finding his ways to adopt the persona of the beloved comedian and the issues he has caused throughout the shooting that made an impact with the rest of the film crew.

We all knew Jim Carrey is already a comedian, but in this film he took it one step ahead by using method acting, ala Daniel Day Lewis and Heath Ledger. Method acting can be tough at times as it messes with your mind, and Jim proved that it made the film (Man on The Moon) ten times better when you know what’s going on during the production.

HOLY HELL

Will Allen, a filmmaker and ex-member of a cult named Buddhafield has documented an amount of footage surrounding the cult activities throughout the 22 years he was in. The compiled footage was initially only to be viewed by the upcoming cult members but things went sideways when Will left the cult. Holy Hell is an exposé on the filths done by the West Hollywood cult and how their leader, Michel is abusing his followers throughout the years.

I always fear the idea of joining a cult so this one really opens up for me. All the hectic experience that the filmmaker Will got into throughout those 22 years got me thinking “The world is fucked as it already is”. We tend to look over the ability of a deranged man to influence the others and Holy Hell shows that faith is man’s powerful weakness.

PARIS IS BURNING

Paris is Burning tells the tale of the invaluable “Golden Age” of New York City drag balls, with an attentive reflection of gender, class, sexuality, and race in the United States. Featuring legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women, the documentary provides an interesting perspective from a somewhat minority group that struggles with their identities and acceptance.

The subject matter of LGBTQ has always been taboo for the past few decades, only now that it has been a discussion on whether it is acceptable or not. The fact that this documentary was released in 1990 made it clear that it’s not that of a taboo; it’s the perspective that you choose to look from. Wonderful documentary, I recommend this for the people who felt despised on.

THE EDGE OF DEMOCRACY

I feel like this fits in the list with what’s happening around the world right now, especially in Malaysia. The Edge of Democracy chronicles the impeachment of a president, the imprisonment of another and the triumph of authoritarian politics. Seeing the news everyday was pretty okay, but when everything is put together into a documentary like this, it really shows the truth that was always hidden from the public eye, and it is radical.

Honestly, the idea of democracy is already complicated as it is and we can’t deny the fact that politics are never not dirty. The narrator, Pedra Costa’s writing and voice is the highlight of this documentary and Brazil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s final speech shows the great kind of empowerment for the fate of democracy, not only in Brazil but the whole world.

KLoé Hotel: KL’s New Hotel Specifically Designed To Nurture Creatives

Hotels nowadays get lost in the swirling vortex of modernistic minimalism design language, which is appealing at first, but then quickly tapers down to the same formula, just mixed in with various different parts. However, KLoé aims to be something different, as the hotel is targeting a different kind of breed: creatives.

Set in the hustle and bustle of the Bukit Bintang district, the 85 room hotel places a #SapotLokal initiative first, with many of the items, furnishings, and decorations coming from creative minds of local studios and artists, directed by a local curator in order to shape the room to KLoé ‘s vision. The highlight of this offering is the 5 lofts, split to conquer 5 different pursuits: Room To Grow, Room To Draw, Room To Read, Room To Listen, and Room To Taste.

Each of these rooms are tailored and curated by 5 individuals who are at the forefront of their fields, including Rudy La Faber (Founder of FONO KL), Joee Cheong, Ronnie Khoo (Owner of Ohsum Mossum), Sarah Benjamin (AFC Host, Cook) and Nazir (Co-founder of Tintabudi).

While the looks of the space is aesthetically pleasing, the feel is also taken into account. Rooms are awashed with duck-egg blue and sage, colours that put the mind at ease. Liberal use of copper-trimmed storage and furnishings give a mid-century luxury, from the real oakwood floors to hand-poured terrazzo tables feature in every room.

The rooms are also equipped to the tee for the savvy globetrotter, with smartphone to tv connectivity, artisanal snacks, city guides, and a fully kitted out amenity set from Aesop.

For the lifestyle aspect of things, the hotel hosts 2 eateries, a cafe named Lucky Coffee which is run and owned by LOKL, as well as a Californian styled diner named Monroe. Apart from the swimming pool, the hotel is also equipped with a wellness spa named B.est Mind and Body that offers a holistic approach to fitness, offering classes for yoga, mediation, and fitness sessions.

The hotel also comes equipped with a bar, called The Secret Mermaid which houses the largest selection of American spirits in KL.

The hotel hopes to be a creative hub once it has fully opened, a space where travelers from all walks of life can come together and share inspirations amongst each other.

Three types of room are available, the City Room, Courtyard Room, and Loft with the prices starting from RM 400, RM 500, and RM 700.

NYK is back with a new music video called AAA in collaboration with another local artist Shelhiel. This time NYK moved away from the darker theme of My Baby (Love Me) towards something more quirky and bright. It is filled with pop culture references from Kim Kardashian to mukbangers and beauty influencers.

Tones of sarcasm are strewn all over the song, amidst the bright, indie pop beat that gives the song its simplistic rhythm and flow. Watch the music video above and let us know what you think!

Star Wars: The High Republic Is The New Star Wars Saga From Disney

Contains Novels, Comics, and Children’s Books That Is Set 200 Years Before The Phantom Menace

Written by Aqil Nasri

After the (disastrous) end of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, fans might find it hard to accept that the mainline Star Wars saga has officially ended. There may be more coming in the future, but most of the up and coming plans for any future movies are probably going to be spin-offs and solo character series, such as the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series.

However, diehard Star Wars fans need not feel so down as Disney and Lucasfilm have unveiled the Star Wars: The High Republic (formerly known as Project Luminous). This saga will combine children’s books, novels, and comics in order to tell one interconnected story.

The High Republic saga is going to be set before the events of The Phantom Menace, the first film from the prequel trilogy. To put it into perspective, the events in The High Republic saga is going to be set approximately 260 years before the events of the first-ever Star Wars movie to hit theatres, A New Hope.

What this means is that the new saga will explore the world before all the secretly-Sith politicians and the doom that befell the Jedi Order. The Star Wars universe during this new saga will very much be under the control of the Jedi Order, simultaneously showing the Order at the peak of its heroism.

However, there will, of course, be villains that threaten the peace upheld by the Jedi Order. Threats from the Nihil or “space Viking” who live on the fringes of the Galactic Empire will constantly be present, as well as from smugglers, bounty hunters, and scoundrels.

Phase one of The High Republic saga will debut this August at the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim convention, featuring five releases:

  • A young adult novel called “Into the Dark”
  • A middle-grade novel called “A Test of Courage”
  • A comic book series called “The High Republic Adventures”
  • A comic book series (from Marvel) called “The High Republic”
  • A novel called “The Light of the Jedi”

Anyways, what do you guys think of the new saga? Let us know below!
