adidas Originals Deerupt, Disruptively Simple

adidas Originals introduces its newest sneaker, Deerupt, a take on adidas heritage reimagined in a radically new look. Minimalist and bold, the silhouette looks to the archive for its grid design inspiration, while debuting a new profile that remains the essence of adidas.

The silhouette is inspired equally by urban planning, architecture, and natural phenomena, where the Deerupt holds the grid as its central design principle. What was once an adidas running silhouette in the 80s, a key feature on the New York runner and Marathon Training shoe, the grid design is stretched throughout the entire silhouette. When the silhouette is exaggerated in terms of proportions and injected with electric color, the grid is transformed into a bold visual motif. adidas plays with the grid through textures, layers and different perspectives, the collapsible, runner-inspired design that features an ultra-lightweight construction with knit uppers covered in stretchable netting. We may find inside the sneaker, zoned foam pockets molded along the shoe’s interior lining to ensure the highest degree of fit to lock the wearer’s foot into the shoe that creates a supportive compression. The result of such fit is a product with a truly unique benefit, a shoe that conforms to its wearer ensuring ultimate comfort.

Deerupt will be launched on the 22nd of March in the hero colorway Solar Bird, a meld of two iconic adidas tones known as Solar Red and Bluebird with a retail price of RM500. The silhouette will be available at every adidas Originals stores throughout Malaysia and on adidas online.

When You See Sun Khiew On The Streets, She Will Make You Look Twice.

The One Star returns along with the rise of four Malaysian anti-heroes of the youth. Each of the Converse chosen anti-heroes represents the behavior of counter-culture; impulsive, audacious and fearless, characteristics that resonate with the One Star spirit. Far from your typical social media influencers, thus they are Rated One Star, as in rated 1 out of 5 stars. The four anti-heroes come together to celebrate those that don’t care about what people think about them or rate them, they express the ethos of defying mainstream while rocking the Converse One Star resurgence in their own way.

Sun Khiew is the girl who is unapologetic of standing out as a personal individual in her bold and uncompromising approach on crazy colors scheme that complements her bold prints. In fact, separating herself from the crowd. Sun represents unique individuality which is what the Converse Rated One Star campaign stands for.

Sun stands the odd against all normality and is exhausted by what everyone is wearing. Sun is currently a fashion stylist in the commercial world for nearly a decade, working for commercial companies such as Astro and Canon. However, in the industry, she’s restricted to experiment in her expertise work but when it comes to her own personal style, she goes full frontal. Take one look at her intangible style and you can hear the screams of anti-mainstream. Every look she styles pushes the limits of her creativity in the eccentric choice of her vivid and whimsical wardrobe.

While Sun is always dressed in bold, she has a surprisingly laid-back personality despite the daring pop of colors and a whole lot of edge added to her outfits. Some may say she’s awkward, but the right term would be quirky. Fashion has always been about self- expression and Sun takes advantage of it by dressing in her accessories, multi-colored hair and her statement piercings. For Sun to shave off her eyebrows was not a fashion statement, “I’m honestly lazy to maintain my eyebrows, and I found it convenient cause it requires lesser maintenance as it fits my look quite well,” she laughs.

For someone who does not comply with society’s expectations, “People are afraid to be loud and colorful but I’m not”, she says. “I’m used to being labeled as a freak, alien and monster by haters on how I dress. Well, I’m not normal and that’s a fact.” Her resistance against stigmas and guts to experiment makes her a symbol that embodies the ‘Rated One Star’ campaign.

One of Sun’s favorite activities is actively going to massive festivals all over the world namely Wonderfruit and Laneway. Fashion plays a huge role in festival culture, many individuals share the same experimental fashion sense which is one of the reasons why she loves to participate in these festivals is cause she feels like she belongs. Sun is a nod to defying normality which is inspiring to individuality. This is why her authenticity fits the Rated One Star.

The Rated One Star campaign is in lieu of the One Star introduction by Converse Spring 2018 that takes cues from Tyler The Creator, GOLF Le FLEUR’s line. The Converse Spring 2018 collection renewed it’s icon status to release the classic One Star featuring an original Converse eye-popping bold print on a ‘hairy’ suede material. The Converse One Star 2018 collection is available at all Converse stores.

Meet Sun, one of the four anti-heroes up close and personal as fans can witness them customizing the One Star shoe during the co-creation session that will be held at Sole What, The Gardens on the 15th March 2018, from 1PM to 6PMm. They will stop by to make another appearance for a pop-up at Bookmark, APW Bangsar on the 22nd March 2018, from 1PM to 6PM.

Masses Picks: Top 10 Air Max 1 Grails You Should Know For Air Max Day

Air Max Day is approaching and sneakerheads are excited about the release of the ‘Safari’ pack (Air Max 1 & Air Max 95) this weekend, and not to forget the Sean Wotherspoon Nike Air Max 97/1. Before we celebrate the birth of the iconic Air Max on 26th of March, we believe some of you should fill yourself in with some knowledge about a few Air Max 1’s that you should know of. Check it out:

1. Nike Air Max 1 SP ‘German Camo’

This pair was released only to “family and friends” when Nike opened their latest store in Berlin with a limited run of 50 pairs worldwide. The detail that separates this pair from the other Camo executions during that time is the black kick guard.

2. Nike Air Max 1 ‘+41’

Nike collaborated with clothing brand +41 to produce this rare pair where rumors say that the theme behind this pair is ‘mythical’. The theme was meant to attract people’s attention hence explains the ‘eyes’ on the tongue of this pair. This pair was released in only one store worldwide with a limited production of 41 pairs worldwide. This pair is definitely an eye-catcher if you are ever lucky to come across a pair.

3. Nike Air Max 1 x Eminem ‘Big Proof’

This collaboration was designed by the man Eminem himself as a part of an auction for his own charity, the Marshall Mathers Foundation. The name of this collaboration, ‘Big Proof’, is to honor one of the D12 crew member and his friend DeShaun ‘Big Proof’ Holton who was killed back in 2006. There are only 8 pairs in existence worldwide, and chances are if you would to even offer a big sum of money for these, Air Max collectors will never let these go. Good luck finding a pair.

4. Nike Air Max 1 x HUF

We know there are multiple collaborations between Keith Hufnagel’s HUF and Nike but this Air Max 1 collaboration was his debut. This pair is a “family and friends” edition which differs from the Quickstrike version, donning the SF skyline, perforated toe box, and custom insole. There are only 24 pairs worldwide which make this pair one of the needed gems in any Air Max collector’s closet.

5. Nike Air Max 1 x Kid Robot

Air Max 1 collectors know that the Air Max 1 Kid Robot is one of the better built Air Max 1 with its premium leather featured on the upper. If you have not held a pair, you may recognize this leather on the recently released AM1 Masters last year. Kid Robot’s inspiration behind this highly sought after pair is a 1986 Maserati Quattroporte III and with such inspiration, the collaboration was ensured to be scarce with only 250 pairs produced and was released exclusively at Barneys.

6. Nike Air Max 1 ‘Big Window’

You may recognize this pair as the recent Nike Air Max 1 OG ‘Anniversary’ but its time to trace back to your Air Max 1 roots. This pair is not familiarly known to many, but the Air Max 1 OG had a previous predecessor which is exactly the same silhouette just with a slight difference where the OG pair had a bigger, longer visible air unit. It was originally released in 1986 and was given the nickname, the “Big Window”. The ‘Big Window’ was used in Nike’s iconic ad campaign, even though the OG silhouette was the one that went to market.

7. Nike Air Max 1 x Kid Robot (Hyperstrike)

As mentioned previously in regards to the Nike Air Max 1 Kid Robot, this pair is the Hyperstrike edition where Nike teamed up with Barneys NYC and Kidrobot to release both colorways of this model. The full pink Hyperstrike edition is rumored to be for “family and friends” only with a limited run of 72 worldwide and was released in 2005.

8. Nike Air Max 1 x Parra ‘Amsterdam’

Nike teamed up with Dutch Designer Piet Parra back in 2005 to release a Tier Zero Air Max 1 dubbed the ‘Amsterdam’. After the “Albert Heijn” colorway was scrapped, Parra went back to the drawing board and came up with a Red Light District-inspired colorway. The pair featured a nice mixture of Burgundy, Pink and Baby Blue tones with insoles that displayed Parra’s signature illustrative styling. There are two different editions for this collaboration, the Quickstrike and the Hyperstrike (friends & family) edition where the two differences are the existence of Parra’s iconic embroidered tag on the mudguard of the Hyperstrike edition and the quantity produced for the Hyperstrike is much lesser with a limited run of 24 pairs worldwide while the Quickstrike with 200 – 250 pairs.

9. Nike Air Max 1 ‘Albert Heijn’

It is as if almost whenever Dutch illustrator and graphic designer Piet Parra collaborates with Nike on an Air Max 1, it becomes gold or a holy grail for Air Max Collectors. This specific colorway pays homage to the largest Dutch supermarket. However, before the sneaker could release, the supermarket changed their signature colors which caused this pair to get scrapped from production. This colorway was released in limited quantities for “family and friends” with a count of 24 pairs worldwide.

10. Nike Air Max 1 x Patta x Parra ‘Cherrywood’

This three-way collaboration between Nike, Patta, and Parra is definitely a grail for most Air Max 1 collectors. Nike teamed up with Patta to celebrate their fifth anniversary which involved five Air Max 1’s, using lots of different colors and materials across the board. Piet Parra contributed to the design as you may easily observe on the tongue of this Air Max 1. This grail was given the nickname, ‘Burgundy Pattas’ or more familiarly known as ‘Cherrywood’ and was available in very limited quantities.

If you made it through the post, congratulations! You have another ten pairs to aim after Air Max Day to be declared an avid Air Max 1 collector. Take in more ‘Air’ and good luck to everyone for the upcoming release for this year’s Air Max Day!

Arliana Is Living A Double Life In Stardom

The One Star returns along with the rise of four Malaysian anti-heroes of the youth. Each of the Converse chosen anti-heroes represents the behavior of counter-culture; impulsive, audacious and fearless, characteristics that resonate with the One Star spirit. Far from your typical social media influencers, thus they are Rated One Star, as in rated 1 out of 5 stars. The four anti-heroes come together to celebrate those that don’t care about what people think about them or rate them, they express the ethos of defying mainstream while rocking the Converse One Star resurgence in their own way.

Dancer by day, DJ by night. Arliana has rhythm inborn through her veins. Arliana’s intuitions is a proper ‘Rated One Star’ attitude that aligns both with her dance and music. Arliana’s management to juggle two of her passion is what empowers her as an entertainer and made her well versed in the industry. She first fell in love with dance when she picked up ballerina at the age of 8 and ever since, she’s been living in the limelight for around 20 years. Her talent in dance turned into a profession over the years of hard work and dedication as a choreographer. She recently choreographed for Anugerah Juara Lagu 32’s opening act which marks her proudest achievement so far. In addition to being a judge for Fit for Fashion Season 1 and being a part of Peter Pan Asia tour, the best part of her job is the frequent travels for dance classes overseas, all over Europe and her favorite country, Japan.

Through all her dance achievements, Arliana came a long way from where she started, at one point she decided to take two years off dancing. During the break, she discovered her next calling which was DJ-ing, where she hustled through the music industry and have secured her spot in the scene for 10 years and counting.

Most entertainers have an alter ego on stage, so does Arliana who is feistier on stage that naturally allures the audience’s attention to her. “To be honest, as a dancer, I may seem confident is because I let my alter ego shine but off stage, I’m not as confident as I’d like to be,” she says. Arliana overcomes inner battles just as how every other individual can relate to, she brushes off judgments from anyone and not taking offense to anything personally. “Sometimes you can give a damn, but you don’t have to give a damn,” she states.

She wears what makes her confident whether it’s bold or glamorous, she loves changing up her style and hairdo, occasionally pulls off beautiful African braids. The similarity she has with the Converse One Star is her fashion style which is simple enough to make a statement yet stylish.

A fun fact about Arliana is that she can’t sit still for too long and dance is the only way she is able to fully express herself, may it be a dance-off due to a broken heart or to release any form of negativity she face in life. Arliana remains humble in the limelight as she remembers the struggle and hard work it took her to cultivate to get to where she is today. Her creativity is constantly fuelled by her intensity and driven passion while staying humble in all her endeavors. Her passionate spirit and dedication is the link between herself and Converse to front their ‘Rated One Star’ campaign.

Meet Arliana, one of the four anti-heroes up close and personal as fans can witness them customizing the One Star shoe during the co-creation session that will be held at Sole What, The Gardens on the 15th March 2018, from 1PM to 6PM. They will stop by to make another appearance for a pop-up at Bookmark, APW Bangsar on the 22nd March 2018, from 1PM to 6PM.
