@Janggutbear illustrates street culture.

Janggutbear is a graphic designer based in KL. Back in his childhood days, he grew up drawing his favourite cartoons such as Dragon Ball, he even drew his own comics and sold to his classmates.

“Hypebeast”

Through his early passion, he then developed an interest to design the streetwear scene. He expresses his interpretation of the scene, a lot of references to streetwear brands and sneakers. Everyone of his designs features sick kicks.

As you can tell his signature style consists mostly ‘yellow people’, bright yellow coloured figures cartoons. The style stick with him since he was in Standard 2, one of his friends filled all his superheroes drawings in yellow highlighter to annoy him, well it turned out a blessing in disguised.

His work are influenced by Michael Lau, Parra, Brian Donnelly, Eric So, Malaysian artist Joker IX, C2V, Tan Eng Huat and Gayour.

He has done collaborations with local brands such as Pantun Pins, making enamel pins out of his sneakers designs which drawn the sneakerheads community. He reconstructed the famous Supreme logo to a parody “Sup Ekor” and has sold some of his tee’s with his own graphic designs.

“The weeknd takes an L.”

His advice to self-taught artist doing vector art are “stalk your favourite artist’s artworks and study their styles, work from there and create your own style while developing your skills along the process.”

“Patience, as it will come slowly through the process. The main thing has been to keep exploring and pushing ideas; to have self belief amongst the inevitable rejections and setbacks. “
