We Dare You To Play “Sara Is Missing”!

An eerie and thrilling game that banks on realism as opposed to superficial graphics to reel in casual gamers and horror buffs alike, Sara is Missing (SIM) has you invading the contents of a cell phone you’ve happened upon in an attempt to locate its missing owner, the titular Sara.

This is an inexpensive mobile diversion that’s very firmly a horror story, and its gameplay elements are intuitive enough that’s its easy for anyone to pick up and play… barring those that hate horror with a passion, of course.

In the game, you’ll scour through Sara’s e-mails, messages, videos and pictures, receive calls, chat with people, and try to piece together corrupted data with the assistance of the phone’s A.I. Along the way, you’ll slowly develop an understanding of the kind of person Sara is, all the while heading steadily closer to what is likely a horrific conclusion. Keep in mind that in the game you can’t just search for one term that reveals all of the video clips at once, letting you essentially cheat your way to victory once you figure everything out.

The ‘mobile invasion’ concept is rather novel and is enough to set it apart from other games of the same genre. If you’re itching for a nice little diversion that’s imbued with a little bit of thrills and scares, you should definitely check this one out.

You can get Sara is Missing now on Itch for Windows, Mac, and Android.

BEATBURNS Streams Debut Album “Rebirth”

13723923_10154355181167403_5408904118491621609_o

Homegrown alternative indie rock band Beatburns recently released their debut album titled “Rebirth”. After releasing numerous singles in the form of music videos, the band finally launched a stream for the album which has been up on Spotify over the last few days.

The band has been in the scene for a little while now so it’s good to see this indie outfit finally making the figurative leap with a full fledged album. They’ve come a long way since 2012 when they released their first ever music video titled “Tanpa Hari Esok”, which was shot at the Indonesian summer festival Jakcloth.

Last night, we had a chance to interview the band’s vocalist, Lynd on Beatburns’ musical journey thus far.

1. How would you summarise your musical journey over the years?

The journey feels more like soul searching to us. We went through some things that might have broken us apart for good but we held on to each other and told each other that we can make it out alive despite the hardships that we have faced. The things we went through paved the way for the album because it is about rising up when you’ve fallen down. We do hope to continue making more music in the future.

2. How do you think the “Beatburns sound” has evolved or matured over the years?

As someone that started off as just part of the crowd, I can say that Beatburns is now more diverse than how it used to be. This album has elements of electro, reggae, pop… we love the idea of taking bits and pieces from different sounds and making it our own. We are growing up for sure but we are still learning so much as we progress.

3. Any advice or tips you’d like to share to anyone interested in starting a band of their own?

I’m no expert but perseverance, patience and passion is very important. Not everything you do will work out during your first try so those three things are very important. You will need to have that drive to get up on your feet every time you fall and believe in what you do. Teamwork is also crucial if you want to be in a band. You can’t let one person do everything and expect everything you want to be in place. Even solo artists have their own team too.

4. In your opinion, what do you think is the biggest hurdle to be successful as a Malaysian musician?

There are a lot of hurdles, but I think this applies anywhere regardless of where you are. However, I’ll say that our local scene needs more support from the people because a band’s success relies on the fans . Without support, the band won’t grow and achieve more exposure and gain motivation. But I guess the other hurdle would also be from the band itself. There are a lot of great Malaysian bands out there but getting yourself heard is not easy if you do not practice the right ways and have the right tools. Even us, Beatburns, we try to improve ourselves along the way cause we’re not perfect.

5. What is the best advice that you’ve ever gotten so far ?

A lot actually but the most memorable one would be from Jenn Thompson during NMF 2012. Her advice inspired me to work on myself as a performer and I still hold on to that advice. Abang Rom of ROTTW has also given the band a handful of useful advice. We are very thankful to them for the guidance they have provided. Attending Jenn Thompson’s Music Business talks helped too.

6. Any last words for the whole world to know ?

On behalf of Beatburns I would like to thank everyone who have supported us since day one. We hope that you will never get tired of supporting us as we have more things coming in months to come. We hope that you’d enjoy the album! Don’t forget to share it with your friends and download it from the streaming sites!

GTXperiment and why you should give them a listen!

Comprising four best friends that each possess a unique musical flair, GTXperiment is a treasure trove of truly talented vocalists and musicians that practically scream “Malaysia Boleh!” as far as the local music industry goes. Formed by Clinton, Daryll, Mark and Jude, the band’s creative ventures know very little bounds as they infuse their music with a myriad of elements, from hip-hop, indie, pop to alternative styles.

They deviate slightly from conventional bands in that their music is supplemented by a multiple-lead-singer setup that sees several of its members sharing vocal reins. On occasion, the band also features an equally magnetic female vocalist.

GTXperiment was formed when they got together to perform as finalists of the inaugural MTV Aloftstar competition. They were subsequently crowned champions of Southeast Asia and followed that up with battling the champions of India and China. As overall winners, they were then invited to perform at the grand opening of Aloft Hotel in Gangnam, South Korea.

The band is currently working on their first album that is scheduled for release in early 2017. Have a listen to one of their great tracks, “Off The Ledge”, for a hint of just what this band is capable of musically:

Since Christmas is just right around the corner, have a listen to the band’s festively appropriate track “Christmas Wish” that was released late last year:
