Plant “POLICE SOCIETY” SS16 Lookbook

IMG_9576

Local brand PlantMy has released their newest collection called the “POLICE SOCIETY”. “In a world full of corruption, we are living in disguise. And yet, we love it” – its a phrase which you can read on their design below the graphic. The reason they’ve used the phrase is because they want each of their releases to have a meaning behind it, and that at least we can think and share our opinion together about the world that we’re living in. The idea behind the image of a police car burning is simple; it is not just about “F*ck The Police” specifically, its about giving the middle finger to the corrupted system that exists.

This release consists of two t-shirt comes in white and olive green and 2 tote bags making a total of 4 items within the collection.

Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for further info.

AGAINST LAB X SHUREN PROJECTS 2-piece Collection

Creative unit Against Lab just recently associated with menswear label Shuren Projects for a 2-piece collaborative collection, that has resulted in eye-catching minimalism with a twist.

The collection showcases Against Lab’s flirtation with traditional Japanese fashion for the first time with the collaboration’s olive green noragi piece, with the Against Lab “A” symbol imprinted on the inside. Thanks to Supreme and Sasquatchfabrix, the noragi is now a trending fashion statement. However, Shuren Project has been doing noragi way before the hype began, so you can be sure they know what they’re doing with this cooperative effort.

Beside the noragi, the collection presents a white oxford shirt with a contrasting blue-coloured sleeve for a little visual intrigue and pop, in case you’re bored with plain old white shirts. Both pieces are crafted in Malaysia.

This collection is now available at Against Lab and Shuren Project and selected stockists such as Major Drop.

Monoriff New Single “Take Me Down”

Monoriff – a homegrown band based in Kuala Lumpur – was founded by Niralji Ravishanker and Rakesh Joshua Daniel, a bunch of college truants who wanted to do something more in life. What was initially a five-member alternative rock outfit became infused with various other genre influences over the years, and now it currently exists as two-man team.

Following the duo’s release of their first single “Killing Your Own”, they intended to do a collaboration before the release of their next single, “Take Me Down”. The song was supposed to be a simple, easy and a straightforward piece, which is what it is. Unfortunately the collaboration didn’t work out and they put it aside while working on other songs. The inception of the song came out of the need for a collaboration. It was written and arranged in a day but its development into the finished result today took a few months

Check out the duo’s latest single “Take Me Down” below:

“Tuesday” Juice: Darren Ashley’s “Circles”

After a brief hiatus, Darren Ashley resurrects his Monday Juice madness with a new track, “Circles” featuring a delicious durian on the cover. Let’s ignore the fact it’s actually a Tuesday. The durian may be an acquired taste, but this latest (and last) Monday Juice beat will be one that’s palatable to most thanks to the suffusion of Japanese Zen melodies.

Many of Darren’s audible juices are notably tranquil in quality and this one’s no different. The whisper-like vocals complementing the zen beat makes this a worthy track to end his Monday Juice legacy. Not to worry though, we’re very likely to hear Darren’s creations again in some other form or series soon!

Have a listen to “Circles” below!

Justin Chew present “REBOOT” Spring Summer 16 Collection

Drawing inspiration from Italian artist Bruno Munari’s Speak Italian: The Fine Art of the Gesture, with its frugally descriptive text and ample, elegant black-and-white photographs of hand-gestures, Justin Chew presents his own iteration of hand-gesture prints in his latest “REBOOT” collection.

The local designer has always been fascinated by urban street culture. In his latest collection, Justin Chew presents raw and unfinished detailing to symbolise the Italian hand signs. Working on customised denim and patched works, the collection uses statement back prints with hidden messages on over-sized silhouettes, inspired by the book. It is clear that street art is becoming a bigger part of this designer’s influence, and he has deliberately used incorrect grammar in design to signify a cheeky and rebellious side of him.

The REBOOT merchandise is available at the newly setup online store at www.jtnc.bigcartel.com. They’re currently offering free shipping within Malaysia. Last but not least, the collection is available at these selected brick & mortar stores: thisisappear (Bangsar, KL) & Boundlezz (Sungei Wang, KL).

Nike Explores Evolution with Magista 2

What might happen if the foot evolved into a body part mainly designed to play football? This was the focal point of the creation of the Magista 2 with its design emphasising evolution in touch and traction.

After reading research around evolution and morphology,” explains Nike football designer Phil Woodman, “I was interested in the hypothesis that pruning hands were an evolutionary development for maintaining grip on wet surfaces and tools. That got me thinking about how the foot might have adapted had its primary purpose been football.”

The Magista 2 features a newly designed upper with peaks and troughs of varying dimensions aligned to premium touch areas where the foot comes into contact with the ball. There is also a new traction pattern that emphasises on a stud configuration that interacts as a complete system to enable better on foot rotation, braking and acceleration for Magista players.

Check out the Magista 2 video featuring Germany’s football player Mario Gotze below!
