PUMA And Balmain Partner Up To Rework Boxing Attire With Cara Delevingne

In their first ever threeway collaboration, PUMA have linked up with BALMAINand Cara Delevingne to infuse traditional boxing attire with Parisian couture. 2 capsule collections comprise this drop, both designed by BALMAIN Creative Director Olivier Rousteing and Cara, who is also Rousteing’s friend and muse.

The perfect face for the campaign too, as mentioned before by Rousteing, Cara embodies the “troublemaker” theme of his 2019 Fall runway show the best, and after collaborating numerous times, this represents their first venture with a heritage sports brand that combines Cara’s irrepressible spirit, the luxurious sensibilities of BALMAIN, and the performance aspects of PUMA.

The collection then, represents an intersection of sports and fashion. Bra tops, boxing shorts, and sneakers are changed drastically with a bright colour palette, hits of gold, and design elements plucked out from BALMAIN’s atelier.

Olivier emphasizes that this is not just another fashion collaboration. “Cara is a good friend, and this is the fruit of a shared vision,” notes the designer. “Everyone involved—PUMA, Balmain, Cara and me—was determined to create something timeless. Above all, we knew that our message needed to be a strong one, reflecting exactly who we are and what we believe in.”

“PUMA has always represented team work and empowerment so the idea of doing a partnership with Olivier seemed very fitting,” said Cara Delevingne.  “Balmain has a similar brave fierceness to their brand as PUMA does and it really excited me to think of what we could all do together. I’m really proud of what this collaboration has resulted.”

The collection will be made available on the 21st of November exclusively at PUMA KLCC, Sunway Pyramid, and Puma.com.

Warner Brother’s Reveals How Shaggy And Scooby Doo Met In Their Latest Animation, Scoob!

Written by Evely Tan

With hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared with Shaggy, Scooby, Fred, Velma and Daphne in our pajamas through Cartoon Network, Warner Bros Pictures extends the timeline from origin to the present day in SCOOB!

Possibly in an effort to placate the old spirits, but young at heart, the trailer reveals a heartfelt and nostalgic scene of how lifelong friends Shaggy and Scooby met and encountering the other young detectives Fred, Velma, and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. With that, Scooby and his friends come upon their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse” the group discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.

Despite this, there were a few complaints that surfaced, mainly the absence of the original voice actors, and Shaggy speaking with his trademark soundbites. Regardless, we can only see what the movie has to offer next year when its scheduled to drop on May 2020. In the mean time, watch the trailer above and let us know what you think.

Onitsuka Tiger Partners Up With sulvam For The 6th Designer Collab

Written by Evely Tan

Teppei Fujita of sulvam takes on a round of Tai Chi- inspired goods for Onitsuka Tiger’s 70th anniversary celebration for the sixth seasonal installment of its commemorative capsule.

For this collaborative collection, Fujita chose black as the main base colour throughout, contrasting each piece with multiple white and grey details.

The designer made an iteration of Onitsuka Tiger’s “TAI-CHI-REB” shoes featuring a leather upper stitched from front to back with light grey geometric lines, providing a lowkey design update to Onitsuka Tiger’s heritage style.

The apparels also comprise of sewn-together aesthetics with dangling strings style across the jacket and the pants as a nod to the concept of unrestricted style. Alongside, both labels are printed across each piece with the black and white stripes detailing at the sides to offer a sporty look.

The sulvam x Onitsuka Tiger capsule collection will be available at KLCC and Mid Valley Onitsuka Tiger stores from November 18.

Is The Resell Market Preventing Growth In The Women’s Sneaker Scene?

As we all know, brands are starting to realize that they have been overlooking the sneaker market for ladies and have started paying attention by producing and releasing more sneakers for the ladies. We see Jordan Brand releasing better colorways in highly-sought after silhouettes (including OG colorways), adidas releasing Yeezys in smaller sizes down to UK3.5, and Nike releasing Off-White collaborations almost exclusively for women which proves that brands have been taking notes and have sensed a disparity in the ladies’ sneaker market.

However, this opinion article is meant to address another issue which involves the value of these sneakers in the secondary market for ladies sneakers.

It’s just too damn high. Which begets two questions, “Why are sneakers in women’s sizes more expensive than men’s, and who are the buyers?”.

It’s understood that brands usually produce lesser pairs when it comes to smaller sizes which places these pairs higher on the list in terms of rarity, however besides that reason alone, there usually isn’t any other factor which would suggest a price inflation for these sizes.

Moving on to the second part of the question, who are the real consumers of these pairs besides resellers? Based on my experience discussing about sneakers and prices with ladies who are into streetwear, most of them always have a pair they desire whether it’s a pair of Off-White Prestos, Sacai Waffles, Yeezys, Sean Wotherspoon 97/1’s and more but almost every single one of them are reluctant to pay current market prices for their desired pairs even when offered a deal considered to be a steal.

Here’s an example for a women’s release. The Air Jordan 1 Satin Black Toe. An exclusively women’s only release which retails at RM649 is currently selling in the secondary market at around RM1800 to RM2200 depending on the size. Ask yourself this, how many lady friends of yours own a pair or have purchased it themselves in the secondary market at market price? Have you noticed that most of the sellers for this pair are almost 95% guys and are mostly resellers? Think about it, if you have an inventory filled with women-sized sneakers which are catered for women who are looking to own or wear a pair but the inflated prices often do not match the budget of one, who actually buys them? If a reseller buys from another reseller to gain a profit, and their customer base are women in the end of the day, who really actually buys them?

This topic has no intentions to portray a negative view towards resellers or towards the fact that women are more frugal when it comes to spending on a pair of sneakers but more on addressing the issue of the women’s sneaker market and how it will affect the entire resell market for women’s releases if there isn’t any “willing buyer, willing seller” situation. Resellers will get stuck with what seems to be “bricks” and the women’s sneaker scene will eventually reach a plateau and will only be accessible to the high-income earners.

I understand that making the maximum profit is the goal for every reseller (men or women) but in the long run, this situation may jeopardize other opportunities for resellers as well due to capital being held up which ends up in a lose-lose situation for both the female sneakerheads and the resellers.

I’ve written this based on my personal opinion to spark a thought for all the resellers looking to make a profit in the women’s market and also to address some issues that have been going around which have been brought by female sneakerheads but yet to be addressed. So, what do you think, do you think resell prices for women’s releases are too high which will cause a stagnation in the market and who are the real buyers?

Pa’Din Musa Just Created A Woven Vans Slip-On For Vans Checkerboard Day

Finished And Executed With The Help Of Dirt Army and Orang Kapal

Malaysians here have a very strong connection with Vans; having had multiple collaborations from the thoughtful, all the way to the politically rattling, we as a collective scene love their shoes very much, and for Vans’ annual Checkerboard Day, legendary skater and collaborator Pa’din Musa cooked up something very special, yet very apparent and familiar to all Malaysians: The Checkerboard “Mengkuang.”

Mengkuang, or screwpine leaves, have been woven into various products from the likes of carpets, baskets, hats, bags and so much more, and in the case of the Vans Slip-On, the art of weaving is transplanted directly onto the shoe in a checkerboard format.

With the help of @dirtarmy and @orang_kapal, the mengkuang is first woven to match the vamp of the Slip-On while the actual silhouette is criss-crossed with fine guidelines for extra detailing. Only the vamp and heel panel are juxtaposed onto the shoe, sewn in with twine, while Pa’Din’s initials are glued to the heel panels.

The shoes are also complemented by a couple of accessories, a Vans backpack made in the same pattern, as well as a framed woven mengkuang with the Vans logo cut into it.

As this is a charity event, the “Mengkuang” pack will be auctioned off on eBay. Currently as of writing, the offer stands at USD 1,100 or RM 4,569.95 with the auction ending in the next 4 days. Want a piece of cultural history? Head on to the website now to bid.
