“SOWHAT?” Logo Tee

“So What?” is a phrase that we always mention in our daily conversations. And now a newly established Penang brand has used this as their name. Based on the description of the founder, Bryan the concept behind this brand is to bring out the message that we should be proud of who we are, and where we from and when people question you, just keep that “so what?!” attitude in you, as long as you yourself know who you are.

As an introductory release, “SoWhat?” released their logo tee which is priced at 49MYR a pop. Add them up on their Facebook page and show them some support.

“The Curb X |DEPOT by Devise” : Official Launching Party Recap

Last Saturday we were privileged enough to be invited by Ilyas, the owner of Devise to “The Curb X |DEPOT by Devise Official Launching party”.  |DEPOT by Devise is not just a store that sells Devise clothing, but they has also stocked in a couple of local brands such as MercuryCo, Phobia, CheeseDenim and a few others. Besides, you can also get your cure your BMX itch from The Curb, a BMX store that shares the space with |DEPOT by Devise.

The launch party was a very intimate affair as it was mostly friends and family of the BMX scene that showed up. Food and drinks is compulsory, as we are all Malaysian, and Devise launched their new release with the premier of their lookbook video.

As we all know Devise has been around for more than 10 years, and it’s really good to see that they have now ventured into a new journey, which is having their own physical store. Feel free to drop by the store at 110A, Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, Taman Tun Dr Ismail 60000 Kuala Lumpur and check it out. With that said, we leave you with some recap pictures of the launch party.

For the most part of last week, we have seen the news of catastrophic floods in Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor. As of 8th December, the total victims now figure at 65,173. Though the flood has subsided, it meas all the more for us to extend our compassion and aid to our fellow Malaysian brothers and sisters. More than ever, we need to inspire them to get over their grief and help lift them back on their feet.

A charity concert that will feature acts like monoloQue, Altimet, Da Vagabonds, Go Gerila!, Ana Raffali, OAG, Pesawat and many more. The minimum donation is RM20 per person, but if you would like to donate more, you are more than welcome to.

Being quite a ‘spur of the moment’ idea from loQue of monoloQue, the idea was spawned out only a few days ago and he quickly went to action in prepping for the fundraiser he rallied his peers from the creative scene and soon more and more came to the rescue too. The idea is born out of our Malaysian culture of ‘Gotong-Royong’, and loQue plus all the other bands involved are urging you to do your part in helping out.

Check out the posters below to get more info on the fundraiser and do your part!

Pestle & Mortar : Holiday 2013 Lookbook

In Malaysia, our holiday season isn’t a cold, white, wintery ‘holiday’ season. It’s more like packed malls, packed beaches, packed theme parks and definitely packed roads. Why? because holiday season means school holidays / semester holiday and for the working people, it would mean it’s time to clear their annual leave.

Here, in Pestle & Mortar’s latest lookbook, they want to encourage you to be slightly different this holiday season. Instead of hanging out at home playing GTA 5 or hanging out at malls, go out into the wild and be one with nature. You will be surprise how much fun one can have at a simple picnic / camping trip beside a waterfall can be. Seriously, go try!

The official launch of the collection will be this coming Sunday (15th December 2013) at their Bangsar Flagship store. Event starts at 4pm, so see you guys there!

Membaca Adalah Amalan Kita

PC103608

Yes! The wolf is back! In case y’all didn’t know what ‘wolf’ we’re talking about here, it’s the “Big Bad Wolf” book sale that is held annually and is now in their 5th year running. The book sale is THE biggest book sale in the world and it has definitely grown bigger and badder with over 3 million books on sale. It’s happening at MIECC The Mines KL from 6th to 15th of December 2013 and it’s open for 24HOURS!

We’re not really bookworms, but we do love books. Since the event is a 24 hours event, and to avoid heavy traffic (both motorist & human traffic), we decided to go at 12AM on a Monday. However, there was still a lot of people when we arrived and with so many cashier counters, we still had to queue up to pay. With discounts of up to 75% – 95%, and books costing as low as RM3, who wouldn’t want a piece of the big bad wolf?

With so many people at the book fair, we really thought to ourselves that “Membaca” is really our “Amalan”.

BAD KL : After Dark

[vimeo 81506335 w=620&h=348]

Haven’t heard of this guys in awhile, but they’re back. As we have mentioned before, bad things happen without a warning, but this time the peeps of BAD KL were kind enough to have warned us prior to their release with a few teasers and a release date. Armed with a lookbook and a very well made video, this bad boys really mean business.

The oversized glow-in-the-dark tee takes center stage in this ‘After Dark’ release where it is seen featuring the ‘BAD 77’ design once again, but with a different twist. The release also features other 3 designs which is the black or white ‘XX’ oversized t-shirt, the black on black ‘BAD77’ oversized t-shirt and the oversized ‘BAD77’ sweater.

Wanna get on the bad-wagon? Add them up on their Facebook page or their Instagram to get in touch with them.

IMG_1571

We’re taking a wild guess here, but we’re pretty sure we’re quite right. The guys of Woodentank Apparel are big time biker boys, because this is their 2nd release that they have featured motorcycles in their photoshoot. Anyways, their 3rd batch of release is called the Prestigious Series and it features the one and only Malcolm Little, or more commonly known as ‘Malcolm X’. A men who went against racism and was a strong believer and preacher of Islam.

The ‘Prestigious Series’ is already available and you can get in touch with Woodentank Apparel here to get a hold on on the release.

“Desserts in the City” by Cloakwork

Before we get into this interesting graffiti post, let us ask ourself how many of us actually do pay attention to the billboards along the street? Our lovely government has dumpped a lot of money into building these digital billboards that is suppose to inform us citizens about the happenings on the road. However, a lot of them are not functioning and are just left there as “eye candy”.

Now is the time where art comes in. Graffiti artist, Cloakwork used this abandoned billboard as his canvas, and add some flavour to the boring billboards. Cloak named these babies as “Desserts in The City”. YES, it’s not “Sex And The City”. Enjoy these desserts and let us all learn to pay more attention to our surroundings.

Nike LeBron 11 “Terracotta Warrior” Detailed Look

This pair of sneakers pull their good looks from the legendary Terracotta Warrior statues that is found in China, which Lebron visited back in 2011. The colors and design of the tomb really grabbed his attention, so much so that it eventually led to the creation of this shoe. Using a neutral stone colored base, the rest of the shoe is coupled with pop colors of purple, teal, and red to reflect the original paint-work on these historic artifacts. The special design on the shank is drawn from the Bronze Age Art – the era in which the Terracotta Warriors were crafted.

The shoe is already available at selected Nike and retail stores nationwide.

Devise : “In The Blood” Collection

[vimeo 81183811 w=620&h=348]

Ever thought to yourself, why is it that you are drawn to a certain something? For example, a certain type of sport. Or why is it some of us are so hung up on sneakers? Why is it that we are willing to risk it all, just for this ‘thing’ that we are so passionate about? Well, according to Devise (and not some Harvard scientist),  it’s all in the blood. When you immerse yourself in a culture that you are so passionate about, eventually, the culture flows through you. Like your blood.

As expected of Devise, the collection consist mostly of black, but this time with a tinge of red. The collection is out and available on both physical and online fronts of Depot By Devise. Check it!
