PickNik at Publika

IMG_7398

Chef Nik Michael was only 9 years old when he first cooked his first dish. Shortly after that, he then moved on to cooking for family functions, gatherings or just regular meals at home. His dad who is a chef himself, is one of his biggest contributor that led to him developing his cooking interest and skills. His dad was also the person responsible in encouraging him to take part in the first season of MasterChef Malaysia back in 2011. The show brought him to national stardom and he is now one of the most renown celebrity chef in town.

A super cool and down to earth dude, Chef Nik invited us over to have dinner at his restaurant, PickNik which he opened together with his dad. The father and son tag team restaurant serves comfort food as  their main theme. Why? because most of the dishes on the menu is a personal favorite comfort food of Chef Nik himself. And being the ‘Kiasu’ Malaysians that we are, we sat down and ask the waiter to recommend what is their signature/popular dishes.

We think the fact that Chef Nik is of Australian-Malaysian heritage plays a big role in how he cooks his East-Meets-West dishes because it was somewhat pretty hard to pin-point what we were eating at times, because the dishes looks so western, like a bowl of pasta that looks like an ‘Aglio Olio’, but once its in your mouth, it taste totally not like what you expect. And we mean that in a good way. We can safely say that almost every dish has a Malaysian or Asian twist to it.

So if any of you peeps are in need of some comforting, head on over to PickNik in Publika and munch on some comfort food. For more info on the restaurant, add them up on Facebook page here, and if you any of you are fans of Chef Nik Michael, follow him on his Facebook page here.

PS: Besides the dishes shown below, we had a few dishes that were not stated on the menu, and unfortunately we gobbled it the moment it reached the table, so we would like to apologize for the lack of pictures from us. Same thing happened for dessert. But here is what we would recommend you to try for dessert:-

  • Peanut Butter Slice: Peanut butter with cream cheese on a biscuit crust
  • Pandan Creme Brulee: A cross between Buah Melaka & Creme Brulee
  • Salted Caramel Brownies

Lips & Wings : “Primadonna” Release

971778_210510665739285_735045132_nFirst starting out as an “events-only” brand where by they would sell their stuff at events and gigs, they eventually decided to branch out to become an online portal in July 2012. Ain Wahida, the founder of the brand told us the reason behind the name of the brand is that “Lips” symbolizes the lust, sexiness and attractiveness of a lady, while the “Wings” symbolizes power. The unique and strong characteristic of a sexy yet ambitious woman.

Being one of the very very, very, very few streetwear brands that is focused on the ladies, they approach it with simplicity but paying more attention to the details like the cut, materials and the way the fabric flows on the body and their curves, even though they may be donning a baggy / oversized shirt. In their latest release, Primadonna is their first batch release that is streetwear centric for the ladies.

Expect many more to come from them, in the meantime, enjoy the pictures from their latest lookbook.

Veterans Day is an official public holiday in the United States where people honor those who have served in the armed forces. With that said, just like teammate LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Li-Ning will be releasing a pair of shoe that will commemorate the special day.

Nike SB Project BA “Pink Foil” Detailed Look

Nike continues to push the envelope for “lifestyle meets sports” footwear with the release of their latest design from the Nike Skateboarding camp called “Project BA”. Honoring the long standing partnership between Brian Anderson and Nike SB, they have taken Brian’s 20 years of skate experience and used it to craft a cutting-edge shoe that is designed and made with Brian’s dexterous performance in mind.

At first glance, the shoe might be mistaken as a “trainer” type of pair, with it’s design drawing some inspiration from that category of shoes. A mix fabric upper is seen in a black centric colorway, with a curved “running” inspired toe to assist with flip tricks. On the lower parts of the shoe, we see it featuring the Nike Lunarlon cushioning system in grey and Pink Foil accents. Hard and compact, yet compatible with the board beneath, the cushioning control hosts core support to the flexible upper. Upon putting the shoe on, the wearer would be very surprise as to how comfy the pair can be. Don’t take our word for it, go and try it for yourself to believe it.

Shoe is already at all HEAVYWEIGHT outlets and at SHOWROOM too.

Baseline – “BADASS 91” Tee

1238719_655411094478503_1675387586_n

With the “Ninetology All Star Malaysia 2013”  just round the corner, this release is really timely. The event will feature a few legendary NBA basketball players which includes one time NBA Champion Jason “White Chocolate” Williams, four times NBA All-Star Team Latrell Sprewell, one-time NBA Champion Michael Finley and of course the tenacious seven-time-NBA Rebounding Champion and five-time NBA Champion,  Dennis “The Worm” Rodman which is the inspiration of this release by Baseline.

The t-shirt featured in this release comes in 2 colors which is red and black, both of which are the official colors of the Chicago Bulls which Rodman played in. The word “BADASS” is seen written on the front of the tee coupled with the number “91” which is Rodman’s jersey number. Dennis Rodman was truly a badass due to his “I don’t give a sh*t” attitude and his spunky hair colors, but the main factor would be that he is one of the best rebounders of all time.

The t-shirt is already available and you can get in touch with Baseline here to get your hands on the t-shirt.
