Air Jordan 10 “Steel”

The AJ10 was first released back in 1994, almost 20 years ago, and for this particular pair, the Air Jordan 10 “Steel” was released in 1995 where Michael Jordan wore in his return to the NBA back after his first retirement from basketball. And to commemorate his return plus his success in the world of basketball, the designers at Jordan Brand included all the highlights of his career on the outsole of the shoe.

The colorway of the shoe is based on the baseball team that MJ played in which is the Chicago White Sox. The uppers of the shoe are made of pure white leather while the eyelets area and ankles are accented in black. Matching strips on the eyelets and the outsole in a fitting steel grey color. There is some difference between this retroed pair and the OG pair where it has a special capped toe and also the Jumpman logo is in red instead of the “Carolina Blue” on the OG pair.

This pair drops tomorrow (13th October) at selected Nike and Retail outlets nationwide.

Nike Lebron 11 “King’s Pride”

Lebron James, or now more commonly known as King James, has definitely dominated every aspect of his career, and that includes the sneaker game too. Sneakerheads all over the world were buzzing about the news of his latest signature shoe model, and now as we are approaching the launch date of the first colorway of the new model, which is tomorrow, we’re pretty sure the hype will be intense.

This is the lightest Lebron model to date, with the weight of only slightly above 400grams, Nike uses a new type of foams which is lighter and tougher called Hyperposite as the main construction of the shoe. A visible Lunarlon sole that is coupled with a Full Nike Zoom on the entire sole to help with cushioning and comfort, but yet still being able to feel the court. Lebron also wanted the shoe to be locked down to to his leg, like it is an extension of his leg hence the use of the Nike Flywire came into play.

Color wise, the shoe spots an iridescent golden color on most of the upper, which is why most people were calling it the “Armory Slate” up until Nike released some info on the shoe. The color name for the gold is “Parachute Gold” which is also the other nickname for the shoe, but Nike went with King’s Pride because it is a name which mirrors Lebron’s style of playing which is fearless, determined and ambitious.

The shoe drops tomorrow at selected Nike and Retailers stores nationwide.

Tips On Growing Your Brand Pt 3 by Zul of PK Apparel

This is the last part of the 3 part of the “Tips On Growing Your Brand” Mind Sharing session at Tempatan Fest 3.0 last weekend. For this part, we highlight what was said by Zul of PK Apparel, a brand which has been around for just about 1 year, but has garnered some serious following over the months because of what the brand itself stands for and also how their designs portray what the brand stands for.

In this part, Zul being a freelance designer himself, highlights the importance of the designing aspect of things when having your own brand.

 Have A Good Message

When you have a brand, it is vital that you spread positivity to your customers. In a way, because you are a brand owner, regardless whether your brand is just starting out or already established, you are in a position of influence, so it is very important that you influence people with positivity. Do not abuse that position you are in to spread hate, disunity or just plain bad things.

Be Inspired, Don’t Imitate

I am a big fan of the brand Quiksilver. Before I started PK Apparel, I use to spend a lot of money on buying Quiksilver stuff and one day I thought to myself, why don’t I just make my own brand. So when it comes down to designing stuff for PK Apparel, it would only be natural that I would want to have the brand look and feel like Quiksilver, but also at the same time I want it to have its own identity. I used Quiksilver as an inspiration, and it is only natural that each and every brand owner has their own inspiration, but it is very crucial that we do not imitate it fully. If not your brand will be identified as a copy cat.

A Brand Name Is Very Important In Designing

Don’t name a brand because of convenience, or because you think it is trendy. A brand name has to be well thought of because it will be something long term. If your brand sounds cheap, customers will perceive your brand as something cheap. And I am also gonna stress this point, DON’T BE CINCAI. The name of your brand will determine how you design your clothes, because your designs have to match the brand name.

Have A Direction And Stick To It

Trends come and go, and designing based on trends may make you popular for awhile, but after the trend is gone, customers will look elsewhere. So it is best to come up with a concept and a direction that your brand wants to go in, and stick to it. If you see another brand doing something else and is getting attention for it, don’t just follow them. Because that way you are a follower. Be original.

Have Depth

A good element to have when you are designing is the element of mystery. Basically have depth in the designs you do. Having obvious designs is okay once in awhile, but it is also good to make the customers think and wonder what is the meaning behind the designs. Even your brand name can have depth too. My brand name is PK Apparel, which a lot of my customers keep asking me what is the meaning behind “PK”, which actually stands for “Pecah Kepala”. Why I name it that way is so that people will ‘pecah’ their ‘kepala’ thinking about it. It may sound very normal, but it definitely makes the customer think and talk about it.

Bottom line, when designing, I hope that you will ‘Pecah’ your ‘Kepala’ to come up with designs that are worthwhile so that your customers will ‘pecah kepala’ thinking about it.

This is the “behind the scenes” video of the soon to be release music video of Monoloque’s ‘Inderaloka’ ft. Mira Tilu. The music video was shot at Perak during the month of Ramadhan so it was a real challenge for the band and also everyone in the production crew. From the BTS video, we can see that the song and video both have many symbolic meaning behind it. Each scene has a reason and meaning to it.

The song is slated to be released on the 22nd of this month. In the meantime, enjoy the BTS video above.

Tit For Tat – MMXI Snapback

Tit For Tat (TFT) is a brand hailing from Sabah. Established in 2011 by the then 16 year old Nicholson Woo who started the brand simply because he saw a lack of the local streetwear culture in Sabah and also because he wanted to wear his own designs. The brand’s name is derived from the attitude of reaping what you sow. “I will treat you exactly how you treat me” – a phrase that has a tinge of revenge in it.

The snapback is already available and is going for RM85 a pop, so if you wanna get a hold of the cap, you can get in touch with them through their Facebook pageEdited4Edited3 Edited7.
