Highs & Lows x ASICS Gel Lyte III “Sliverscreen”

Continuing the 25th anniversary celebration of the GEL-LYTE III, ASICS Tiger and Highs and Lows have collaborated in this new project. Inspired by the Aston Theatre,  ASICS tiger partners with Australia’s Hight & Lows to release a GEL-LYTE III called the “SILVERSCREEN”, a tribute of art deco for  cinema houses and cinema culture.

The iconic Astor Theatre has not always been as such; originally introducing itself as “The Lyceum’. Having to resided onhe heavily commuted Beaufort/Walcott St. intersection for close to a century, when it’s regal doors first swung open on the 5th of November, 1919. Simon Bremner Alexander who is the Architect and owner, confidently claimed it as the State’s coolest building not only from a aesthetic standpoint, but also to the extend that exceptional ventilation its design allowed.

From then, through the 1990’s and still today, The Astor symbolizes the artistic and cultural place in the heart of Perth. The destination remains as a premiere checkpoint for independent cinema, various global musical events and stage acts,  thus it is an inspirational view from the door of Highs and Lows’s first store in Mount Lawley, which opened 10 years ago.

The idea behind the design of the GEL-LYTE III ‘SILVERSCREEN’ incorporates the soft mint pastel and contrasting red of the buildings exterior, features the Mayan flower detailing and materials inspired by the time-tested fabrics and décor that have lined the lobby of the theatre for decades. The ice outer sole reveals a marble print taken directly from the marble floor of the lobby. The theatrical theme is finished with such details to a reference to a vintage cinema with a silent film countdown print across the innersole and incorporates with various 3M accents to complete the nod to the Silver Screen.

With its rich delicate fusion of history and coziness. I Think we can all agree that nothing can go wrong with this shoe.

The Highs and Lows GEL-LYTE III will be available exclusively,  10th January 2015 (Sunday), 10am at Sole What Mid Valley. The shoes will retail for RM799 (inclusive of GST) with limited quantity. First come first serve basis.

Take note: *This shoe contains pigskin materials.*

HYPE Clothing Co. Capsule Collection “Indigofera”

Local clothing brand, HYPE Clothing Co. just released a brand spanking new Capsule Collection titled “INDIGOFERA”, which is named after a type of flower that produces the indigo colour of denim. Dubbed as the ‘denim flower’, INDIGOFERA is inspired by the World War II era where women had to do jobs that used to be specifically for men, because most of the men were away at war. The women workers wore denim to work while manufacturing warring needs.

The iconic US World War II poster girl and her propaganda song’s lyrics adorn the collections’ tees, raglan and sweatpants that comes in indigo colours (duh!). The collection is now available at all HYPE Clothing Co. Stores nationwide.

BAPE x Asics Tiger Collection

A BATHING APE®, known as BAPE®, collaborates with ASICS, the world-famous Japanese sporting goods brand.  Here in this collab, the two model of choice is the  ‘GEL-KAYANO TRAINER’ and the ‘GEL-LYTE V’ that has been decked out with the original BAPE® CAMO, one of the most signatory feature of BAPE®.

Although the official launch of the collection was in November 2015, Malaysia seemed to have missed out on the action as we did not get any news on the pairs dropping on our shores. But you know how the old saying goes “better late than never”.

Here in this collab we see The Kayano receiving a desert camouflage print with brown suede panels and pink highlights, while the GEL-Lyte 5 is kept in all black with a black/white camouflage pattern and reflective 3M stripe logo.

The collection will be launched exclusively at CROSSOVER Mid Valley this Saturday, January 9th 2016. For more information please follow CROSSOVER’s Facebook and Instagram.

MASSESzine no. 6 : The RUNNING Issue

For our 6th edition of the MASSESzine, we set out to explore the fast moving world of the oldest and biggest sport in the world, RUNNING. From a personal point, I wanted to explore running because it is something pretty close to my heart. I have been running regularly for the past 4 years and have grown very fond of the sport. Not just because of how much healthier the running has made me, but because of the simplicity of it, the minimalistic requirements needed to go for a run, and the fact that your only opponent is your own self.

Some may argue the fact that football is the biggest sport in the world, but in actual fact it is running. Statistically, the number of joggers in the United States alone amounts up to 60million odd joggers as of 2015, and some experts say the numbers go up to the billions if you add up the rest of the world. Anyone with an abled body can run. You don’t need team mates, you don’t need a court, you don’t need proper weather (kinda), and you definitely don’t need a ton of equipment to go for a run. Just strap on a good pair of running shoes and off you go. It’s that simple.

In this issue, we explore a wide spectrum of the running world. We explored the history of running, the different individuals who play a role in the running community, the different brands who have made a huge impact on the running world, the different ways to prepare for a marathon and the evolution of the running shoe.

Whether you are someone who have never ran a single KM in your life, or you are someone who compete in ultra-marathons, we hope this issue of MASSESzine will offer you the support and motivation to go out there and push yourself to achieve more, not just in running and in conquering longer distances, but to go the distance in life.
