Reminisce The Good Old Days With Hujan’s Latest MV, “Pelangi Dan Kau”

 Written by Aqil Nasri

Iqbal M ended 2019 by releasing their latest music video titled “Kalau Tewas Nanti Parah”, and now Hujan is starting the year off by blessing us with a music video as well!

Now, “Pelangi dan Kau” is not a new song per se. This was a song that Noh Hujan and Mizz Nina wrote back in 2013 when they entered a reality TV show called Passion8 for 8TV. The newly rereleased 2020 version still maintains the flow and musicality of the original, however, the guest artists have changed for the new version. Khottal and Mizz Nina featured in the original 2013 version, while the latest version sees Azlan & The Typewriter and Loca B taking on the mantle of the past artists.

Upon first viewing, viewers are introduced to 4 different young adults who decide to hang out together. Now, fans of KAMI the series and KAMI the movie (2008) may notice some similarities, especially with the second girl in the video. She somewhat resembles Lynn in the KAMI series (played by Liyana Jasmay). From the way she dresses, and the way she even looks would make viewers think that she’s actually Liyana Jasmay from 10 years ago!

The most obvious cameo moment was when one of the guys in the music video stole his boss’s car keys and drove an almost exact replica of the car that Ali (played by Syarul Ezani) in KAMI the series and the movie. This was an obvious nod to diehard fans who have been in the indie scene for a long time. It’s sort of as a way to commemorate the journey that all of us indie kids have been through all this time.

KAMI The Series

Watching this MV feels like you’re going on a journey. A journey through your bittersweet times, your painful memories, your joyful occasions, your first love, your first gig experience, your heartbreaks, and your last time hanging out with a group of friends that you aren’t close to anymore. It’s a deliberate touch on all the little things that make us human.

Out of nowhere, I felt a sudden sense of longing after watching the MV. As if I’ve missed out on most of my life. As if I’ve been but in the passenger seat throughout this journey called time, watching it pass by nonchalantly and without care.

I can’t believe how they did it, but Hujan has made me feel like I’m back in the early 2000s again, living a carefree life without much worry of tomorrow.

Thank you Hujan, for making me feel again.

Hidup Ini Memang Palat, Tapi Esok Masih Ada

Here’s What We Know So Far On The Playstation 5

Coming to the end of the Playstation 4 cycle, Sony has announced its successor, the Playstation 5 is slated to launch during the Holiday season of 2020. And as expected of a giant conglomerate like Sony, there are a few leaks here and there regarding the design, its controller, as well as the overall architecture. Listed below is what we know so far on the brand’s next generation console.

Price

The Playstation 5 is slated to be priced at USD 499 (approximately RM 2050) when it first launches in North America, which is about USD 100 more than the Playstation 4 when it first launched. There were also rumours that the console could reach a stratospheric price of around USD 1000, but Sony themselves have already confirmed that it won’t be priced in such a way, presumably to keep in line with the Xbox Series X.

As reported by WCCFTech, journalist Zenji Nishikawa has suggested that Sony may very well launch the base model PS5 and PS5 Pro together as the brand recognises interest in the higher-end model and wants to give the customers the option to buy straight from launch. These are just rumours however, and may or may not occur depending on the timeline that Sony has set.

Revamped Controller

While the leaked designs suggest that the controller will still retain the shape of the Dualshock 4, its the changes under the hood that make for the most significant changes, one of which is the replacement of the rumblers for haptic feedback to deliver a more tailored response when it comes to interacting with the game environment. Adaptive triggers (the L2/R2 triggers) will be included in to allow programs to adjust resistance for a more varied feel whether it be pulling a bow and simulating trigger feel.

Backwards Compatibility

Sony has also been working on a remastering engine that allows the PS5 to play virtually any game from the PS1 all the way to the PS4.

PS5 Specs

The PS5 will run on a bespoke 8-core AMD chipset with NAVI GPU, similar to the third generation Ryzen architecture, while storage capabilities are handled using a SSD. More importantly however, is that AMD’s new combo allows for ray tracing technology to be implemented, meaning more believable and detailed lighting in game, translating to a more vivid image.

The PS5 will also support 3D audio and 8K TV support, for a true immersive experience that comes close to a full cinematic experience.

The Optical Disc Reader Will Stay

For those wanting for a physical touch, physical CDs are here to stay, inserted into the Optical Disc Drive which doubles as a 4k Blu-Ray player should the user wants to watch movies.

Kohler Invents A Smart Speaker For Your Showerhead

Just when you think tech can’t get any more advanced

Written by Aqil Nasri

Okay, so there’s digital shopping, digital communication, digital gaming, and now…digital showering?

If you’ve ever wanted to fulfil your lifelong ambitions of performing in your shower, then Kohler might’ve just grant you that wish of yours. Introducing the Kohler Moxie Showerhead, a device, in collaboration with Harmann Kardon that consists of a wireless smart speaker that fits in perfectly with Kohler’s ring-shaped shower head via magnets. The speaker is detachable for easy charging.

Amazon’s Alexa is also directly integrated into the overall systems, so you don’t have to physically touch the speaker unit to change songs, cos that’s so 20th century.

The speaker emits a white-noise cancelling frequency so that music and sound can still be heard over running water.

Of course, with Alexa’s full capabilities, it’s not only just for your music. If you’re late and forgot to set an appointment, just scream to the shower and it’ll do just that. The future really is now.

Though with electrical complications associated with water, you’ll have to take the head out and recharge it. A single charge lasts 5 hours, enough for a week’s worth of karaoke, and comes with a IP67 water resistance rating.

The Moxie Showerhead comes in two types, an Alexa built-in one that will be selling for $229 (RM941.00) and a bluetooth only version that comes in at $169 (RM695.00). However, there’s still no word on its availability, but it is expected to be released later on in the year.

If you want to find out more about the device, head on over to their official website.

Xiaomi Has Just Released The World’s Most Affordable Smartwatch

Written by Aqil Nasri

Xiaomi has consistently produced products with incredible price-to-performance ratio, and the brand is about to include a smartwatch into its line of products.

Introducing the Xiaomi Haylou LS01 smartwatch, though stripped down, still performs enough functions to qualify as one.

The highlight features of the smartwatch include a sleep and activity tracker, a heart rate monitor, a 14- day battery life on a single full charge (240 mAh capacity), as well as a 1.3-inch coloured LCD display with a resolution of 240 x 240x pixels.

The watch also includes 9 different sports modes, which include walking, hiking, running, treadmill, cycling, fitness mode, mountain climbing, yoga, and spinning. Alarm clocks and smart notifications also come with the smartwatch. You can also connect your smartphone via Bluetooth by using the Haylou App. Apart from that, the watch comes with an IP68 rating, meaning dustproof, and water resistance up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.

That’s pretty impressive considering its price tag of literally just RM 75. To put it into context, your entry level smart watch would still require you to cough up at least RM 200.

If you want to grab one, visit Xiaomi Youpin’s website.

What do you guys think about this new smartwatch? Do you think its worth it? Let us know in the comments below!

Best Sneaker Of 2019? It’s The Nike X Sacai ‘LDWaffle’

We’re aware that we’re about 2 days late to announce our sneaker of the year, after putting out the 10 worst sneakers of 2019, but I feel this needs to be said, mostly because it’s quite unlike any other collaboration we’ve ever seen before.

As Nike’s gone onto the retro revival for the whole of 2019, we see long forgotten models like the LDV and Waffle Racer resurface from the depths of the archives, but not before assigning them a highlight co-sign which then proceeds to the drip-feeding of GR models, as per the usual Nike strategy. And in a turn of events unbeknownst to us beyond the circle of the Swoosh, Chitose Abe of Sacai was given carte blanche for her collaboration, the result of which birthed the Nike X Sacai LDWaffle. Hideous, eye-catching, fast, weird, wtf, were all used to describe the state of Abe’s creation, but it succeeded in implanting the image in everyone’s head and was the talk of the scene for months to come.

Sacai Creative Director, Chitose Abe

Unlike others which modified to shoe by taking an Exacto knife and deconstructing fan favourite silhouettes (cough cough Virgil), Abe essentially juxtaposed two models into one, namely the Nike LDV and Waffle Racer, realising the imagination of children whom decided to just overlay two things on top of one another when they were bored.

The concept doesn’t just stop at the side view though. Double stacked midsoles, double Swoosh, double tongue, and double laces ensured the continuity of such a wild, never-before-seen concept, and released with a myriad of unusual colourways that stands out on an already unique silhouette, practically cements the LDWaffle’s status in the books.

Other collaborations can swap out materials, change colourways, deconstruct and add some punk-ish inspired heel clips ala Undercover, but none can hold a candle to what Sacai has made; a true, original silhouette, that no one else can lay stake to without screaming plagiarism. And that’s why Sacai’s LDWaffle is the best shoe of 2019.

Golden Mammoth Just Dropped Their Latest Single Titled “Galeia’s Touch”

Get Ready For A Somber (But Fulfilling) Time

Written by Aqil Nasri

After a 2 year hiatus, Putrajaya’s neo-psychedelic outfit is back at it, this time with a new single titled “Galeia’s Touch.”

It’s hard to describe in words how deliriously sinful the song sounds, like a love that’s so wrong but yet feels so right on so many levels. It’s like a gloomy version of Young Monks ‘Jarmin’ in the Dark’, except with less funky bassline all around. The constant beats of the drum combined with the rhythm guitar ferry you to a far-away land filled with colourful clouds that floats you safely. You feel weightless, as if all your problems have been lifted from your shoulders by angels from an alien land. The longer the song goes on, the more relaxed you get. You feel sleepy, but you don’t want to sleep. You’re in a delicate balance between being awake but at the same time, you are not really awake. You’re not aware of what’s happening to the world around. You are just there, eyes closed, humming to the tune of the song, when all of a sudden, the song just snaps out of existence and stops abruptly.

What a cruel way to end such a good song on. I can’t wait to see what more they’ll have in store for their upcoming full-length album that’s going to be released in 2020.

Sonaone And Alif Just Released A Star Wars Inspired Single Titled ‘RISE’

To celebrate the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, Walt Disney Malaysia has collaborated with rappers SonaOne and Alif to drop a Star Wars inspired track titled ‘Rise,’ depicting the final battle for freedom, reflecting the movie as both protagonist and antagonist battle to face their true enemy.

The song follows a successful formula that has both SonaOne’s and Alif’s signatures all over it, a fitting power duo for the biggest fight of their lives.

“Never in a million years would we have thought our love for Hip Hop and Star Wars could come together in the most perfect way imaginable. We feel honoured to be a part of this, and as Star Wars fanatics ourselves, we hope to connect with all you other fans and celebrate the end of the saga in the ‘littest’ way possible. RISE RISE RISE!” said SonaOne & Alif.

5 Expensive Watches You Can Purchase Without Breaking The Bank

Written by Aqil Nasri

A wise person once said, “accessories can make or break an outfit.” There is a universal truth to the saying, as without the small details, an outfit can look relatively plain, or empty even, once people start detailing you down. And one of the most important accessories to have is a watch.

“Oh, but watches are expensive, I don’t have enough money for it!”, says the negative Nancy. You don’t need to sell your kidneys for a wristwatch that looks expensive and timeless. As such, I’ve listed 5 watches that may look expensive when they really aren’t.

Timex’s abandonment of their mechanical movements in watches to favor a more digital and quartz movement has left many watch lovers craving for a throwback to the good old days. That’s why the reissue of the Timex Marlin has been such a joyous comeback. The simple, timeless design look to it just oozes style, and made with decent materials compared to the lower tier of Timex’s range, ensures the heritage American brand looks the part while retaining an affordable price.

This is a perfect alternative to Citizen’s exceptionally thin (less than 3mm) Eco-Drive One that was released in 2016. Although beautifully crafted, it costs an overwhelming RM8,255.00, which may put off some buyers. So, this perfect replacement was created so that more can enjoy their watches. At a thickness of just 4.7mm, it is still considered super thin, while also costing 4 times lesser than the Eco-Drive One. Not forgetting, the solar-powered quartz movement which basically makes the watch indefinitely sustainable. Well, as long as there’s the sun and there’s light.

The big cushion case and simps dial makes the SRP777 a perfect homage to the original Seiko 6309 “Turtle” from the 70s and 80s. And following with the whole diving watch concept, the timepiece also comes equipped with water resistance up to 200 metres. Who says diving watches aren’t affordable?

When it’s German made, you bet it’s going to be built to last. Known for its simple and legible Flieger pilot watches, the Augsburg does not stray far from a proven formula. The black dial that’s filled with the numerals from 1 to 12 allow easy viewing, and the big case size of 42mm fits perfectly on the hands of most men. However, there is a smaller 36mm variant for those who want a smaller size. Simplicity, that just works.

Now, Merci may be new into the watch scene, but it sure does so with a bang. The overall look of the LMM-01 is like a mix between a modern watch and a vintage field watch. Coming in standard is also the Swiss-made hand-winding mechanical movement, ensuring top of the line quality inside and out.

Joe Flizzow Just Got Engaged To Artist Marini Ramlan

In a secret event held over the weekend in Petaling Jaya, Subang’s finest has just got engaged to a long time friend and artist, Marini Ramlan, who would eventually tie the knot in 2020. While no official date is set, Awani reports that the big day is slated to happen in April.

According to Joe’s mother, Aishah Ali, the couple have known each other for the past 15 years, but only started getting serious 3 years ago in 2016.

Before settling down, Joe wanted to realise his dreams as a musician first, and that feat was achieved upon his appointment as Managing Director of Def Jam SEA.
