RECAP: Fern & Pearly Wong SS2014 Fashion Presentation

Fern Chua and Pearly Wong presented a spectacular display of both traditional and modern pieces at Damansara Performing Arts Centre this Tuesday. It was a display of both ends of the spectrum, Fern’s collection displayed traditional batik with a new modern twist, while Pearly Wong’s collection was something from a sci-fi film.

Fern opened the show with her new line of ‘contemporary meets traditional’ batik-infused pieces. Her collaboration with Ruzz Gahara showcased a beautiful versatile collection of intricate batik prints on cool flowy silk. Fern and Ruzz Gahara created a fresh perspective by infusing Malaysia’s national treasure, batik, into everyday wear.

Well-known for her functional and monochromatic-coloured designs, Pearly never fails to impress. The soundtrack created by DJ Jhin set a futuristic feel to her set. With vegan leather vests, sheer pieces and functional zips, she created a clean, minimal yet bold look for the modern woman.

RECAP: MIMMA Season 2 Final Invasion – Tryouts Tour

The Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts, or MIMMA for short invaded Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya last weekend which marks the final spot of their tryouts tour. In case you don’t really know what MIMMA is for, it is a platform for amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) practitioners to compete and put their skills to the test.  MIMMA goes around the whole of Malaysia searching for the next big name in Malaysian MMA. This is their second year running, and they plan to have many more years to come since it is supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The tryouts was a huge success, with more than 500 odd participants signing up, the events area was pretty cramped (and smelling of testosterones). Majority of the MMA gyms in Malaysia have positioned MIMMA 2 tryouts as their major goal for the year, hence the big turn out. Participants were also more prepared and more ‘ruthless’ compared to last year, which meant more excitement for us by standers. Out of all the participants that signed up, only 112 fighters will be selected to move on to the ladder match which will be happening on the 17th & 18th of May and eventually stand a chance to win RM150,000 and also be called Malaysia’s best. If you have never been to a live MMA fight, you really should. It is exhilarating, exciting, and definitely adrenaline pumping, even though your’e not the one fighting.  If you are really keen to watch a live MMA fight, come on down to Paradigm Mall on the 17th and 18th May.

Pestle & Mortar – Spring Fling 14

In the video, you might notice some of the new and notable items in this collection, the first polo shirts, coach jackets, ladies raglans, sweat shorts, canvas tote bags, rubber key chains, ladies dress, crew neck sweatshirts, Ladies cropped jersey tops, all inspired by the mischievousness kid in us. Last but not least, this Spring 2014 brings back the iconic Reverse Kuala Lumpur tee and a couple of pocket tees in new colour ways.

We had the opportunity to go check out the Fashion Presentation of Fern & Pearly Wong’s SS 2014 collection at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre, Empire Damansara on Tuesday night. Tarik Jeans “Basics” Collection Ft. Joshua Desmond

The Spring / Summer season is usually the season where designers, fashion labels and brands go wild, funky and colourful. It’s a time where they celebrate the sun and its warmth. But for Tarik Jeans, it’s a time where they ignore the rest and go back to basics. Besides, in Malaysia, it’s always sunny.

For this collection’s lookbook, Tarik Jeans brought long time friend and supporter of the brand, Joshua Desmond on board for the shoot. Josh, a PR practitioner and also the ex-guitarist of rock band Rosevelt, has been rocking Tarik Jeans since day 1 of the brand. Here, he is seen wearing “All Tarik, Everything” and pulling off the basic look well. Tarik’s main motive for this collection is to preach the “Less is More” sermon. The total collection consist of 7 different articles of various colours ranging from bags, beanies, chinos, jeans, long and short sleeve t-shirts and a sticker pack. Here’s the latest release from CRAY called ‘Cray’ back statement tee. A big oversized ‘CRAY’ wording is printed on the back of the tee, together with a white stripe at the bottom, and their logo C on the chest. A very simple and subtle tee. Yet very loud at the same time.

The Swagger Salon – 2014 Q2 Lookbook

The Swagger Salon never fails when it comes to steamy, sexy, and NSFW lookbooks. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not complaining in any way. Besides, the photos of Qila, the model holding framed ‘Lansi’ t-shirts is something very different from the guys at The Swagger Salon, which is something pretty safe, but fret not,  for this lookbook, They had a safe set of photos, and a not so safe set.

As we have mentioned in our previous sneak peek post on this collection, we see TSS shunning away from the usual Black / White colored t-shirts  and focusing more on some vibrant ones. Besides the vibrant colors, the new collection also features some parodies and spin-offs. Luckily for us, and for you, we got both sets of lookbook, and we have attached the NSFW set below. Enjoy!
