Dapur Jendela

Continuing our tour of JB City, we popped by the famous “Dapur Jendela” which is situated along Jln Dhoby. From the outside of the cafe, it looks like a pretty ordinary joint. Unimpressive and, pretty raw. Although first impressions are very important, but remember that saying to never judge a book by its cover? this is a classic example. The ‘raw-ness’ of the place is what makes it so full of character. From what we were told, the shoplot was in a pretty bad shape when they first took over, so instead of doing an extensive makeover, they just did some touch ups and left it raw.

Dapur Jendela serves very classic Malay / Malaysian food that will definitely bring you down memory lane once consumed. They also serve the typical Malaysian drinks which can be found at your neighborhood mamaks, but Dapur Jendela boasts the “Best Mango Juice in JB City”. A strong statement, but after trying it for ourselves, we believe that there is some weight behind it.

Utensils as chandeliers, cracked walls, semi rotten looking wood furnishing, a cozy environment and great food to top it off, Dapur Jendela is definitely a spot to visit if you are in JB City. Follow them on Instagram ( @dapurjendela ) for more updates on the joint.

Hang Mokhtar has been around for many years, 22 years ago to be exact. He first shot to fame when he came up with his first hit which was “Ayoyo Sami” back in 1987. The song was about the toll payments on highways which was impose by the Jabatan Kerja Raya which was under the leadership of Dato’ Samy Vellu. Because of that song, he did not get much support from most media and eventually his name died down.
