A Quick Gift Guide For The Upcoming Valentine’s Day

Written by Aqil Nasri

It’s the season of love, of undying romance and endless kisses to your partner. While it is true that you can’t measure love by the things that you give them, it does ultimately help in the long run, however.

So, join me in the quest to find the best gifts for your partner and make their dreams come true! (and your dreams as well while you’re at it, wink wink)

Overcooked 2 – RM103.00 (PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or PC)

The ultimate test for couples everywhere, because it is said that if you can make it through the game without overcooking your temper, you’ll know that you’ve found the one.

The deliberate panic the game causes will test whether your communication skills between your partner and you are good enough or not. This is probably the only game where you’ll be shouting “Throw the f*cking rice to me!” and it’ll sound completely fine.

Joseche Sleep Headphones Bluetooth Eye Mask – RM101.00

Do you or your significant other sleep with earphones on, listening to music just so you guys could sleep? Have you ever felt bothered by the wires or the presence of an earphone in your ears while you sleep? Well, throw all that worries away and get the Joseche Sleep Headphones Bluetooth Eye Mask now so that you and your partner can sleep soundly with less interference.

This device is a game-changer, with more than 9 hours of listening time and good stereo sound with thin speakers, it is an absolute steal of a price of entry. Get this, or heck, get two and let you and your partner sleep the night away peacefully.

Football Jerseys – Prices Vary

If your S.O loves watching football, getting them a jersey of their favourite team would be a dream come true (especially if you’re a Liverpool fan right now). It may seem like a simple gift for your partner, but I promise you that it is a thoughtful one, because not only you spend your hard-earned money on buying them, you also remembered which football team their support.

Temperature Control Smart Mug – RM440.00

This battery-powered mug is a must-have for coffee lovers or hot water drinkers in general. With this mug, your significant other can sip their drink at their own pace without compromising the overall taste and temperature, as the mug can keep a drink perfectly hot for an hour and a half on a single charge. Also, did you know that you can control the smart mug with your smartphone? Well, now you do. The mug can be paired with the Ember App in order to set temperature, customize presets, receive notifications and more.

Wow, that sure is one hell of a mug.

Goodpair Socks Serves Up A Pleasantly Minimalist Collection In Collaboration With Lunabar Coffee

Malaysian bred Goodpair Socks has a simple ethos, for it to be “designed in Malaysia, and made in Malaysia.” While not many pay attention to socks, they can prove to be an integral item to your whole fit, adding a hidden layer that accentuates how your overall fit looks. And the company’s collaboration with Penang-based Lunabar Coffee proves to be a simple yet tranquil feeling design.

Through the company’s Kawan Project division, Goodpair Sock’s latest collaboration brings forth an image of an island, bathed in bright moonlight that shines and twinkles amongst the ripples of the surface of the sea, infusing a tinge of uncertainty to an otherwise serene scenery.

Simple colour combinations are used, while simple geometric lines are used to draw various echoing elements.

Priced at RM29 per pair, the socks are available online now.

5 Things You May Not Know About Thaipusam In Malaysia

Written by Aqil Nasri

Oh Malaysia, we’re blessed with so many different cultures and celebrations that public holidays are coming in droves. We’ve just had the Chinese New Year celebration last week and now we’re gonna be celebrating Thaipusam this weekend (And we’re only in February!). What a way to start 2020.

But, although Thaipusam has been celebrated as long as we can remember, there might be some interesting new facts that some of you might not have known previously. As such, let me share 5 interesting things about Thaipusam that you may not know about Thaipusam in Malaysia.

  1. Meaning of the word “Thaipusam”

Well, the word is actually split into two, into Thai and Pusam, with Thai holding the meaning of the “10th month in the Tamil calendar, and pusam meaning “when the star is at its brightest” So, this is why Thaipusam is celebrated in the 10th month according to the Tamil Almanac, on the day when the moon passes through the star “Pusam”.

  1. When did the festival of Thaipusam begin in Malaysia

I feel that most people might’ve assumed that Thaipusam has been celebrated in this country for as long as time can remember. However, that is not the case, as the festival was brought into Malaysia back in the 1800s. This was when Indian immigrants started working in Malaysian rubber estates and government offices.

The first celebration at Batu Caves occurred in 1888, and ever since then, the celebration has even gotten bigger here in Malaysia.

  1. Man of the devotees are in a trance

If you are going to see the celebrations for the first time this year, don’t be surprised to see that many of the devotees are in a state of trance. Before you go making scared faces and more, know that there’s a reason for this.

The worshippers during Thaipusam would regularly pierce their tongues, cheeks, and even their faces with sharp objects. This is to symbolize the burdens carried by them. So, if you see a worshipper having their tongues pierced, it is done so as a symbolic gesture of giving up the gift of speech.

  1. The festival is in honour of Lord Murugan

The whole celebration of Thaipusam is in dedication to the Hindu deity Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva. Based on stories and legends, it is told that Lord Shiva sent Murugan to help devotees being disturbed and plagues by asura (demons). He is given an invincible lance by Goddess Parvati in order to destroy the demon army of Tarakasura and fight the evil deeds that they brought forth.

In the end, Lord Murugan manages to be victorious, in which he appears before the devotees while holding a golden spear and seating on a silver chariot. The celebration of the victory that good has over evil is the main reasoning behind Thaipusam.

  1. What main customs devotees follow before Thaipusam

For many devotees, the preparation for Thaipusam does not start a few days before the festival or on the festival day itself. Instead, the preparations start 48 days (one mandala) before the Thaipusam festival. In preparing themselves, they need to be purged of all physical and mental impurities by doing observing certain rules and guidelines like:

  • Fasting or eating only one simple vegetarian meal or fruits and milk a day
  • Coldwater bathing
  • Refrain themselves from smoking cigarettes, alcohol, or other intoxicants
  • Sleeping on the floor
  • For men, usually no shaving or cutting of hair during this period
  • Constant prayers, poojas, chanting of mantras, singing hymns, reading of Sastras and spiritual books and remembrance of Lord Murugan.

9 Ways To Include Colour To Your Outfits If You Always Wear Black

Written by Andrea Tang

Black is such an easy-to-wear, hassle-free colour. We get it, and we can relate, but sometimes it’s nice to add a pop of colour to your outfit, no? It doesn’t have to be a bright neon shirt or pattern pants. There are so many subtle but smart ways you can add colour to your outfits!

Here are 9 ways you can include colour without compromising too much on your black fit.

Accessories

An outfit is not complete without accessories. A piece of jewelry as simple as a metal chain can make your outfit pop. From necklaces and bracelets to rings and wallet chains, there are so many options to add a little allure to your outfit!

Black Clothes With Brightly Coloured Details

This is definitely a no brainer. A pop of colour in your black tee will definitely make people look twice, and it doesn’t stray far from what you’re comfortable with. They’re also super easy to find, from local brands like Against Lab to international brands like Carhartt.

Headwear

Not only is this an easy way to spice up your outfit, it can definitely help you out on your messy hair days too. Caps, bucket hats, beanies, or even something more boujee like a beret will instantly make your outfit pop.

Sunglasses

Protects your eyes AND elevates your outfit? We have to have it! Look for a frame that compliments your face shape and if you can, invest in a pair that will stay with you for years.

Shoes

You know what they say, the first thing people judge about you are your shoes. If you’re a little iffy about colour on your shoes, try a pair with very small coloured details that look black from afar.

Socks

Coloured socks will instantly add a vibrant touch to your outfit, and you don’t have to compromise your blacked-out look either! Go for socks that end at your mid-calf if you love wearing long pants.

Bags

If you’re worried about having a coloured bag that might not match every outfit, go for neutral tones like tan, dark green, navy, cream, or white. It’s flashy, but it won’t give you a headache when putting an outfit together.

Tech

Phone cases, Airpod cases, and wearable tech like watches can make great vibrant additions to your outfit! What’s great about it is that it’s not permanent and you can always change it up.

Hair

If you want to go the extra mile, dyeing your hair is the way to go. You’ll permanently have a pop of colour to any outfit. This one is a bit bold, but hey, you do you.

Lilo & Stitch Is Set To Get A Live-Action Remake On Disney+

Written by Aqil Nasri

Is it just me or has Disney been remaking a lot of their cult classic films and series and turning them into live-action remakes? I mean, we’ve just gotten The Lion King and Aladdin last year, and in March, we’ll be getting a live-action remake of Mulan. Now, we’re getting Lilo & Stitch in live-action form as well.

The news has recently been confirmed by The DisInsider, in which they’ve claimed that production on the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch will begin filming this Fall in Hawaii. The film will contain a mixture of live-action and presumably heavy use of CGI.

The other big news about this remake is the fact that this project is set to be a Disney+ exclusive. So, be ready to subscribe to it if you haven’t yet.

They haven’t announced a release date yet, however, according to average filming time, if it were to begin shooting this fall, then it would be on track for a 2021 release date. Also, there have been reports that Chris Sanders, the original Stitch voice actor, will be reprising his role as Stitch in the film. Fingers crossed that both of these news will turn out to be true.

Anyways, let us know what you guys think of this news in the comments below!

Onitsuka Tiger Presents The “DELEGATION EX” Inspired By The 1964 Tokyo Olympics

Written by Aqil Nasri

Japanese brand Onitsuka Tiger is continuing their presence of contemporary collection with this new release that combines sports with heritage.

The new model, known as “DELEGATION EX”, is exclusively inspired by the shoes worn by the Japanese team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The “TOKYO ONITSUKA” logo is decorated beautifully on the shoe’s tongue, maintaining the same style that the previous 1964 model had (which was by Onitsuka Tiger as well). The track motif design is drawn on the inner sole, which is a reminisce of the mood during those times back then.

The FLYTEFOAM Propel foam is used for the midsole, with the company promising customers that it will be comforting for them throughout a whole day of usage.

The new urban sporty model “DELEGATION EX” shoes will be launched in most stores and on the EC site this month.

This Desktop Goose Will “Destroy Your Computer” In A Funny Way

Written by Aqil Nasri

Rarely do you see such a brilliant piece of app be used for such a terribly fun and unproductive time. This app is not here to change lives or to break new boundaries in technology.

It’s just here to break your laptop and make a mess out of it (figuratively of course).

Even during the time that it took for me to write this article, the goose has brazenly tracked mud all over my screen, pulled out dozens of memes from the memes folder, and dragged my pointer away every time I closed the pictures that he pulls out.

Desktop Goose is made by Sam Chiet, and while it may bear a striking resemblance to House House’s Untitled Goose Game, Sam has assured everyone that this is a completely separate project and not in any way affiliated with that game. He said that he did this project out of pure joy (joy for him and hell for everyone else I supposed). Apparently, Sam also mentioned that there is an aggression level, where users can adjust the goose’s properties to make your life even more considerably worse.

Some users online have even reported their goose to possess the ability to draw, while there was another user who apparently let out multiple geese’s out on their computer screen (sheesh).

If you want to give the app a shot, download it here at Sam’s website.

Just look at the mess it made
