The Borak-Borak Sessions: Asyraaf of Urban Explore

Kuala Lumpur, like other cities around the world, is going through modernisation with the birth of gigantic tall buildings and skyscrapers that our great-grandmothers could never understand. Urban exploration has made our city centre into a playground for the boys behind ‘Urban Explore’ where they capture images with a unique approach that accentuates the properties of these man-made world we live in. I had the chance to get in touch with Asyraaf of Urban Explore for a short interview to get a little insight on the project.

First and foremost, who are you? – give us a little background

First and foremost, I’m Asyraaf. 20 Years old and I live in Shah Alam. A graphic Design student who also loves the photo-taking art form.

Tell us about the idea behind Urban Explore; when did your interest in photography fully bloomed?

The idea of urban explore? Haha it’s hard to explain. We actually first started back when me and my fellow friends were influenced by international photographers such as Trashhand, Jayscale, Takubeats & etc.. They explore their cities by going onto rooftops, bridges, tunnels and many more but of course they’re all outside of Malaysia. They even have a big community where all the photographers meet up on the streets and share their visuals together. So me and my friends started going to a few places such as rooftops, tunnels and etc. in KL and we wanted to make a Malaysian version of the idea. We go out to shoot day to day and improve our photography skills for ourselves. So yeah, it fully bloomed when I gathered a few talented friends who actually have a passion in this kind of photography.

Does Urban Explore accept submissions? And if it’s a yes, are you guys picky with which photos are displayed? Be honest!

Yes, we accept submissions. You can go search our hashtag for submissions under #UEMY & #UEMYTAKEOVER. Tbh, yes we are picky with each photo displayed. This is because what we want is the quality of the photo. Not the quantity.

What are some of your favourite hotspots in KL to snap pictures, gather inspiration or simply lepak?

Our favourite spot to hang out & take photos? Haha! We hang around many places but mostly rooftops. Our favourite rooftop is one of the buildings near to Bank Rakyat Twin Towers. Find it yourself!

Name us three things you would never step out of the house without.

My backpack, my Casio watch and my favourite 6 panel cap.

Types of Wallet to Go with Raw Denim

fb-01-01

Diving into the world of raw denim tends to make way for you to discover other things in the sea of rugged fashion as well. Whether it be boots, belts, jackets, and other sorts’of leather products. But, one simply cannot deny that wallet is the most symbolic accessory in the style of raw denim. A good wallet tends to age outstandingly nice and also leaves its mark on the wearer’s jeans like as denim does the same to a wallet. Sounds like a good love story isn’t it? Now here are a few types of leather wallets that you can choose to go with your favourite denim!

1. Leather Goods and Supply Basic Medium Wallet

Leather Goods and Supply was established in 2012 and it is a one-man-brand who’s based in Bogor, Indonesia. This basic medium wallet is one of the best selling products that they offer to date. The basic medium wallet has the basic compartments consisting of 4 card slots, 1 medium coin pouch, and 1 bill slot. What’s interesting with this brand is all products are made by hand. The company does not use any machine because they believe in the uniqueness and imperfectness of a handmade product. The skin of the wallet is made out of the finest Indonesian cow leather, and most of the time, they use it all natural. No dyeing (which is the way to go!). Other features of the wallet including an original brass hardware, YKK zipper on the coin pouch, natural color cow tendon thread, and beeswax-ed hand burnished edges. Leather Goods and Supply is available at The Yard Dry Goods.

2. Voyej Vessel IV Americana

Presenting the staple short wallet model from Voyej, the Vessel IV Americana. It has several improvements both on the design and functionality of the product. Speaking of the shape, this one’s slightly longer than the previous Vessel model and also notable features are the asymmetrical edges and two thin wavy machine stitched nylon threads on the exterior. The major re-vamped is where they try something new (and useful as well) with the half-stitched hidden slots and a curve slope to place your thumb which makes it easier for user to put their money in. Compartments include six card slots with two V-Cut signature slots. The skin is made out of pure Americana cowhide and also comes in 5 different colours; black, natural tan, london tan, navy blue, and brown. It is definitely to go for, less stress and also easy to use. The Voyej Vessel IV Americana is available at The Yard Dry Goods.

3. Voyej Rover III Americana

Some people might be having issues in choosing a suitable mid-wallet. Some want it long, some want it short, some prefer it to be slim, and some want it to be bulky. However, problem solved, thanks to Voyej. Presenting the third generation of the Rover medium length wallet, the Rover Americana III. Rover Americana III comes in a completely re-vamped design where the shape is longer than the two previous versions, but slimmer. The exterior of the wallet features hand-stitched Natural “Artificial Sinew” and also Durkopp Adler-machined stitched using Nylon threads on the D-Ring leather holder and other several parts of the wallet. The compartment includes five card slots, one hidden pocket, two money slots (where the way to store your paper bill is now almost identical with the long wallet), and a coin pouch finished with YKK Zipper. The skin is made out of pure American Cowhide leather and it also comes in three different colors; black, light brown and natural tan. The best part is, with every purchase of a Rover III Americana, a solid leather rein is included! Definitely a plus! Voyej Rover III Americana is available at The Yard Dry Goods.

4. Redmoon HR-01A-HM

Now here comes the ultimate challenger from the land of the rising Sun. Redmoon is one of the highly respected brand in leather goods, as this model; the HR-01A-HM was dubbed by the players as “Mother of all Wallets”. The skin was made out of Redmoon’s exclusively produced high-quality steer hide saddle leather. It also features hand-stitched finishing throughout the design, accents with Redmoon’s original 30mm snap concho. Compartments include one zipper coin pouch, three hidden slots (which probably for cards; they designed the slots to have cards stacked onto each other which I personally perceive it can helps to protect the cards from damage even though it’s quite a hassle when you’re taking it out), and one bill slot. Although it is available in several other colors; brown and black, the natural tanned colour is by far the most appealing. It is off-white-ish at first but it’ll turns to a beautiful golden brown over some time and moulds perfectly to the shape of your hip too. Redmoon HR-01A-HM is made available at Zolo Collections.

New Kit Kat Chunky Flavours

Nestle Malaysia has just introduced 2 new flavours to add on to the Kit Kat Chunky family; the Kit Kat Chunky Hazelnut and the Kit Kat Chunky Cookies & Cream! What a special flavours of bar that you can eat whenever you need a break, am I right? The Kit Kat Chunky Hazelnut bar features crushed hazelnuts throughout the thick Kit Kat chocolate coating and wafer filling while the Kit Kat Chunky Cookies & Cream bar has cookie crumbs in the chocolate coating with light cream filling, sandwiched between the wafers. To be frank, not only the flavours are interesting and fresh, but I personally quite impressed with the graphical artwork that they did on their Facebook page too! Quirky, fun, and true. Here are some of them:-

The two fulfilling bars are now available in all petrol kiosks, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and convenience stores nationwide.
